Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid mix of Bernese Mountain dogs and Poodles. They are created by carefully breeding the two breeds together and have become increasingly popular over the past few years. They are known for their outgoing, friendly personalities, intelligence and loyalty. They typically make great family pets, as they are great with children. They have a short, low-shedding coat, and come in both standard and miniature sizes. Bernedoodles require regular exercise and should be groomed regularly to keep their coats healthy and tangle-free.
Bernedoodles, a designer breed created by crossbreeding a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, are often said to be "non-shedding." However, due to the fact that this is a hybrid breed, its coat type may vary, though most Bernedoodles have wavy or curly coats. While these coats do not shed as heavily as some purebreds, Bernedoodles do still shed minimally and are considered low-shedding. Regular brushing and grooming is still necessary for Bernedoodles, as it will help keep shedding at a minimum.
Bernedoodles are a relatively new hybrid breed but their diet is fairly similar to other dogs. Generally, their diet should consist of a quality dry kibble that is high in protein and contains whole grains, vegetables, and a lean source of fat, such as chicken meal, fish oil, or flaxseed. In addition, occasional treats that contain wholesome ingredients can be a nice way to supplement their diet. Raw meat, vegetables, fruits, and grains can also be added for specific health concerns such as allergies, digestion issues, or weight management.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed and they do have special requirements, just like any other crossbreed of dogs would. They require more dedication and responsibility from their owners since they are bred for various traits from their parent breeds and are more prone to health and behavior issues than pedigreed breeds. Bernedoodles need a consistent exercise routine that can include a walk, jog, or even doggy sports such as agility, obedience, and rally. Proper diet and nutrition are also important to maintain, as well as regular visits to the vet for check-ups and vaccinations.
The size of a Bernedoodle puppy will depend on what type of Bernedoodle you have. If your Bernedoodle puppy is a standard Bernedoodle, they will typically be between 20 inches and 28 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 65 and 90 pounds. If your Bernedoodle puppy is a miniature Bernedoodle, they will be smaller and typically be between 15 and 20 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 18 and 35 pounds.
How much exercise a Bernedoodle needs depends on its age, build and general activity level. While it's important to keep them active with plenty of activities that stimulate their mind and body, the exact amount of exercise needed varies. As a general guideline, Bernedoodles should be walked for 15-30 minutes a day, plus additional bouts of active play. Depending on the age and condition of your Bernedoodle, they may need more or less exercise.
Bernedoodles are a great choice for kids! They are confident, social, and loving dogs that can be great additions to the family. Bernedoodles have many of the same traits as Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, two breeds known for being gentle and patient with children. Bernedoodles have a sweet and loyal nature that makes them great family pets. They are intelligent and eager to please, so they tend to learn quickly from the children in the family. Bernedoodles love to play, and their size and energy make them perfect playmates.
Training your Bernedoodle requires patience, repetition, and consistency. A good place to start is implementing basic commands such as 'sit', 'stay', and 'come', and reinforce them each time with positive reinforcement. With any training, be sure to reward your Bernedoodle for good behavior, and keep them in a safe, familiar environment while they learn. You may find that a variety of training methods are needed to successfully train your Bernedoodle. Treats, toys, verbal praise, and even clickers can be effective in helping your Bernedoodle to understand commands.
