Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a popular, designer hybrid cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. They typically have the playful and intelligent nature of the Poodle coupled with the calm and gentle demeanor of the Bernese Mountain Dog. They are available in a wide variety of sizes, from small to giant, and come in a few different coat types; ranging from wavy to curly, and from fine to thick. Generally, they are very social and friendly dogs who are loving with their families and tend to get along with other animals and strangers alike.
The Bernedoodle coat offers the best of both worlds the Bernese Mountain Dog's long and luxurious coat with the poodle's soft, wavy curls. The Bernedoodle will typically have a moderately thick double coat that can range from wavy to curly. The color of the coat can also vary from one pup to the next, with shades from dark-chocolate brown to silvery gray. The Bernedoodle coat can also come in a variety of lengths, ranging from a short puppy cut to a floor-sweeping coat.
The best dog food for Bernedoodles should be chosen with their specific nutritional needs in mind. A high-quality diet specifically tailored for large and active adult dogs is ideal. Look for food containing a high amount of animal protein and low levels of fillers like wheat, corn, and soy. Healthy fats like salmon and olive oil are also important for maintaining a Bernedoodle’s coat and energy. Additionally, make sure the food contains a complete spectrum of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Becoming the best puppy parent while awaiting your Bernedoodle requires preparation and dedication. Start by researching all the different breeds of Bernedoodles and learning their specific traits so you can better understand their needs. Talk to friends and family who have already experienced owning a Bernedoodle and get their advice on the best methods of raising a puppy. Create an environment for your Bernedoodle in your home before they arrive: purchase a kennel, toys, food and water dishes, and a bed.
Bernedoodles are a designer breed created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. They typically grow to be quite large. Standard Bernedoodles usually range in size from 25 to 29 inches in height, and can weigh anywhere from 65 to 90 pounds. However, Mini Bernedoodles are much smaller, typically falling between the sizes and weights of a standard Poodle (15 18 inches and 15 30 pounds) and a Bernese Mountain Dog (23 27 inches and 70 95 pounds).
Walking your Bernedoodle is important for their physical and mental health; they need an adequate amount of exercise every day. You should plan to walk your Bernedoodle for at least 20 minutes per day, but if possible, longer is best. Make sure to vary your walking routine with some short sprints and other activities such as fetch, since Bernedoodles are an active and energetic breed. In addition to providing physical exercise, walks also provide important mental stimulation as your Bernedoodle interacts with its environment.
Bernedoodles can be an excellent choice for first-time owners! Many of their traits make them ideal for new owners, as they're known for their affectionate nature and adaptability. They have low to moderate exercise requirements and can adjust to both active and inactive lifestyles, making them an easy fit for first-time owners. Bernedoodles are also intelligent, loyal, and known for their family-friendly temperaments, making them able to fit into many different households.
The amount of time required for Bernedoodle training depends largely on the age of your dog and the desired outcome. Puppies generally need much more training than adult dogs, and dogs with specific skill or behavioral objectives will need more time than those without. As a general guideline, puppies should receive around ten to fifteen minutes of focused training each day, while adult dogs may need five to ten minutes. However, depending on the individual Bernedoodle, this amount of time may need to be adjusted.
