A Bernedoodle is a designer dog breed that is created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Standard Poodle. This unique hybrid brings together the best of both parent breeds – the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle with the outgoing, gentle personality of the Bernese Mountain Dog. With their intelligence, loyalty, and sociability, they make great therapy and family dogs. Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes, from tiny Toy-sized to large Standard-sized dogs.
Bernedoodles are considered a hybrid breed that is known to be a low-shedding (or possibly non-shedding) dog. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles inherit the low-shedding trait of the Poodle parent and not the Bernese Mountain Dog parent. However, no dog is completely “non-shedding”, and Bernedoodles will still require regular grooming and brushing to help evenly spread its natural oils and reduce shedding.
