Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a designer breed of dog, created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. They are very intelligent and highly trainable, and they boast a gentle, loving temperament. They tend to have a wooly, curly coat that ranges from light to dark brown, and they can come in a variety of sizes, ranging from tiny toy-size, to large standard-size. Furthermore, they are an excellent choice for those allergic to pet dander, as their coat is considered hypoallergenic.
The Bernedoodle coat is a unique blend of the Bernese Mountain Dog's thick and silky coat and the poodle's coarse and curly coat, giving it a unique and striking texture and appearance. Bernedoodles typically have a medium-length, wavy, fur coat with a range of colors including black, white, silver, brown, tan and gold. The breed is typically non-shedding, making them ideal pets for those with allergies.
Bernedoodles should not be fed any type of food that is high in carbohydrates, as they don't process these complex sugars as quickly as other breeds. Additionally, Bernedoodles are also prone to developing sensitive stomachs if they eat ingredients such as beef, dairy, eggs, and pork. It's important to avoid all foods that contain artificial colorings, flavors, and preservatives as these could irritate your dog's digestive system.
There are lots of steps you can take to become the best possible puppy parent while waiting for your Bernedoodle. First, research the breed so you know what to expect in terms of habits, training needs and other important information. Make sure you have all the necessary supplies ready when your puppy arrives, such as food, toys, treats, a bed and a crate. Next, establish a clear routine based on rules, rewards and consequences. Feed your puppy at regular times, give them plenty of exercise and socialize them often. Find a reliable and knowledgeable veterinarian and arrange regular checkups and vaccinations.
Bernedoodles are usually considered to be fairly large dogs. Typically Bernedoodles weigh between 40 and 80 pounds and can be anywhere from 20 to 29 inches tall when fully grown. However, since Bernedoodles are a relatively modern breed, there can be some variations in size depending on the specific mix. While Bernedoodles are considered large dogs, they tend to be relatively laidback, make great family dogs, and require less exercise than some other large breeds.
Bernedoodles, like other mixed breed dogs, need at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. Depending on the age of your Bernedoodle, you may need to adjust the amount of walking time. For healthy young adults, at least two brisk walks of 15 to 20 minutes should be the minimum amount of physical activity per day. If you have an older Bernedoodle or one that's easily distracted, you may want to increase the frequency and length of your daily walks.
Bernedoodles are an excellent addition to any family! They are intelligent, loving, and have an affable demeanor, making them an ideal companion. Bernedoodles are typically easy to train and they are great with children, making them an excellent playmate and an ideal pet for a growing family. Bernedoodles have a great sense of loyalty so they are usually quite protective and watchful over their fur-families.
Training a Bernedoodle is a must for them to become well-behaved and obedient companion dogs. The most important part of the process is to be consistent and create good habits and positive reinforcement. Start with simple commands such as "sit", "stay" and "come". Don't forget to give a treat or verbal praise when the dog follows the command. Once the dog learns basic commands, move on to obedience activities such as walking on a lead, recall from a distance, decent stairs, jump over obstacles, and retrieving items.
