Bernedoodles are a distinct hybrid dog breed, developed by crossing a Standard or Miniature Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. It is a designer breed that often exhibits properties of both parent breeds; Bernedoodles are usually energetic and loyal. They are often excellent family pets, being relatively strong and hearty, as well as trainable. Bernedoodles can also make great guard dogs, though their amiable and friendly nature often means they are better suited to watch dogs than actual guard dogs.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed known for being hypoallergenic, but proper management of allergies is still important. First, to manage the allergens, grooming is key. Regularly brushing your Bernedoodle and using non-allergenic grooming products significantly reduces airborne allergens. Furthermore, it is important to try to reduce contact with allergens as much as possible. Keeping windows closed and avoiding visiting other households that have pets are strategies that can help reduce contact.
Feeding your Bernedoodle the right diet is key to a healthy and happy dog. The best diet for a Bernedoodle is one that is complete and balanced with adequate amounts of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Standard Bernedoodles, however, are typically 22 inches in height or taller and can weigh up to 30 kilos. It's not possible to predict the exact size of your pup until you've got them and they've started to grow, but you can expect a Standard Bernedoodle to be larger than a Mini Bernedoodle.
Walking your Bernedoodle daily is an important part of keeping them healthy and happy. Generally speaking, experts recommend that this high-energy breed be walked for at least two hours per day spread out into multiple sessions. Each of these sessions should last for at least 30 minutes and should include 15-20 minutes of steady walking and 10-15 minutes for sniffing, exploring, and playing. If you're short on time, you should strive, at the very least, to provide your Bernedoodle with a minimum of one hour of total exercise each day broken into two walking sessions.
