Bernedoodles are a hybrid of two amazing breeds the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. They are super smart, loving, and loyal. Most Bernedoodles are hypoallergenic which makes them great for people who have allergies. They are an incredibly active breed, but they still love to cuddle.
While Bernedoodles may cause allergic reactions in some people, it is not a guarantee. People have varying levels of sensitivity, and allergens in the air, pet fur, and dander will also play a role in triggering an allergic response. Allergens present in a Bernedoodle's environment can be minimized, however, allowing those with mild to moderate allergies to enjoy the companionship of these beautiful dogs without having to worry about excessive allergic attacks.
As Bernedoodles are a relatively new breed, there is not a single dietary recommendation specific to them. However, their diet should be based on their individual needs. When determining what to feed your Bernedoodle, you should consider the size and age of your pup, as well as their level of activity. Generally speaking, experts recommend giving them lean proteins such as chicken, turkey, or even fish. Good carbohydrates such as whole grains are also important components of your Bernedoodle’s diet.
Before getting a Bernedoodle, it's important to purchase all the necessary items to take care of it. You will need food and water dishes, lots of love and attention, an identification tag, grooming supplies, a collar and leash, a bed, appropriate toys, treats, and food for your new pup. Additionally, it's important to get crate training equipment, nail clippers, a brush, and toothbrush. If you live in a colder climate, you might also want to get a jacket and sweaters for your Bernedoodle to keep it warm.
Bernedoodles come in three different sizes Standard, Miniature, and Toy. The Standard Bernedoodles weigh between 70-90 pounds and measure 23-29 inches from the ground to the shoulder. Those who prefer a slightly smaller size can opt for the Miniature Bernedoodles, which can weight between 40-50 pounds and measure 18-21 inches from the ground to the shoulder. For an even smaller size, the Toy Bernedoodles weigh between 18 – 25 pounds and measure 11 – 14 inches from the ground to the shoulder.
The amount of walking your Bernedoodle should receive will depend on its age, exercise needs, and other factors. It's recommended that you provide your pup with about 15-20 minutes of physical activity per day, ideally split into two to three walks. If your dog is still a puppy, then five-minute walks should be sufficient for basic exercise. As your pup grows older, you can increase the walks up to one hour each day, including playtime.
Bernedoodles are known to be excellent family pets because they generally love people, especially children. They are friendly and outgoing which makes them great companions for children. They also have a lot of energy and need regular exercise, which makes them great playmates and activity buddies for kids.
