Bernedoodles are a newer class of designer dog, which means they are a mixed breed of poodle and a Bernese Mountain dog. They combine the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the poodle, with the gentle and devoted character of the Bernese Mountain dog. This makes them great family pets, especially for allergy sufferers. They are usually larger dogs, but Bernedoodles do come in three sizes: Standard, Miniature and Toy.
The Bernedoodle coat is a combination of the Textured/Shaggy coat of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Loose/Curl of the Poodle, making this hybrid an unusual breed. Depending on the genetic makeup, Bernedoodle coats can have longer or shorter hair, with some have consistent curls or waves throughout. Typically, Bernedoodle coats come in different shades of black, white, and brown. In some cases, Bernedoodles can have a bit of white and gray mixed in.
Bernedoodles typically enjoy a diet of high quality kibble amounting to 2 to 3 cups a day, split into two meals. As this is a crossbreed of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, they have some of the same dietary requirements. This includes a diet high in protein to maintain their active lifestyle and plenty of essential vitamins and minerals. It's also important to monitor their intake of fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables to ensure they're getting an adequate amount of fiber.
