Bernedoodles are a designer hybrid dog that combines the best qualities of two very different breeds: the Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. They are exceptionally smart, loyal, and eager to please. Bernedoodles make wonderful family pets and are excellent with children, although they can be a bit rambunctious during their younger years. They shed minimally, so they're a great Hypoallergenic option for those with allergies. They have high energy levels and need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
The Bernedoodle coat is usually very soft and silky. It can range from wavy to curly, depending on the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parentage. Some Bernedoodles have a more sparse coat than others, while some may have a thicker double coat. Generally, Bernedoodles shed less than most breeds, however their coats do require regular grooming and brushing to stay healthy.
Proper nutrition is key to maintaining a healthy Bernedoodle. An ideal diet for your Bernedoodle should comprise high-quality food that is rich in animal proteins such as chicken, lamb, beef, and fish, as well as carbohydrates in the form of whole grains such as brown rice and barley. A Bernedoodle's diet should also include plenty of fresh vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, spinach, and kale to provide essential vitamins and minerals.
Bernedoodles, as with any other breed, have a few requirements to ensure their well-being. Diet, exercise and grooming should all be taken into consideration. Bernedoodles are considered to be higher maintenance than a traditional poodle, as they have more energy and require more attention. They do need more exercise than the average pet which could include running, extra long walks, fetch, and other interactive activities for mental stimulation. Depending on the type of Bernedoodle, the average weight as an adult ranges from 25-90lbs., with a height typically ranging from 18”-26”, so these pups are usually not considered to be small.
It depends on a few factors such as age, activity level, and overall health, but a general guideline would be to aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day for a Bernedoodle. This could be two to three 15-minute walks or one longer walk of at least 30 minutes. If your Bernedoodle's health or energy level doesn't allow for longer walks, it's ok to break up the walk and still get your pup the necessary exercise it needs. To keep your Bernedoodle healthy and in shape, you should aim for more minutes every day whenever you can.
Bernedoodles are popular family dogs due to their joyful and friendly personalities.
