Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are hybrid crossbreeds of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodle breeds, such as Standard, Miniature, and Toy Poodle. Bernedoodles come in all sizes and often have designer coloring, such as sable, tri-color, and merle. They are known to be sweet and gentle-natured dogs that crave human interaction, and they are known for their intelligence, energy, and trainability. Furthermore, Bernedoodles are loyal, social, and often make great family pets as they do equally well with children, cats, and other dogs.
Bernedoodles are considered to be non-shedding and hypoallergenic dogs, given that they are a cross between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. Poodles are known for their hypoallergenic coats and for being some of the best breeds for allergy sufferers, and Bernedoodles are not an exception. Since they are a mix of two already hypoallergenic breeds, Bernedoodles are also a great choice for those with allergies.
The best dog food for Bernedoodles would depend on their individual dietary needs, age, and activity level. A good diet should have a balance of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Common proteins like chicken, turkey, and eggs are beneficial for an active Bernedoodle, while fatty fish like salmon can provide additional sources of fatty acids. It is important to also look for whole grains like brown rice, oats, and barley, as well as fruits and vegetables. Always look for high-quality, all-natural ingredients, as these can provide key nutrients to your Bernedoodle.
Preparing for your new Bernedoodle is an exciting process! To ensure that the transition to your home is smooth, it's important to take the time to do research beforehand. Educate yourself about Bernedoodle breeds and their different temperaments, needs, and behaviors. Make sure to have everything ready for their arrival provide them with a comfortable bed, toys, and food and water dishes. It's also beneficial to establish a routine with regular walks and playtime, introduce them calmly to new people, and begin training with positive reinforcement in order to get the best out of your pup.
Bernedoodles can vary in size, depending on the size of their parents. Standard Bernedoodles are considered a medium to large size breed, usually between 23-29 inches tall and weighing 50-90 pounds. Mini Bernedoodles are typically between 18-22 inches tall and can weigh between 22-40 pounds. As such, many would consider the Mini Bernedoodle to be a medium sized breed while the Standard Berthedoodle to be a large breed.
The amount of walking your Bernedoodle needs each day depends on their age, size, and overall health. Generally speaking, a thirty minute walk per day should be sufficient for most Bernedoodles. If your Bernedoodle is still a puppy, you may want to consider taking two 20 minute walks per day instead. Depending on your pet's energy level, you may even want to take longer, more leisurely walks if your Bernedoodle is particularly active.
Bernedoodles can make superb family dogs! They are highly intelligent, loyal, and incredibly adaptable to their environment. Bernedoodles are also known for their playful nature, making them highly appealing to families with children. Perhaps most importantly, these dogs are a great companion for those of all ages due to their gentle, loving demeanor. Bernedoodles are very patient too, making them an excellent pick for families who need help around the house. Furthermore, Bernedoodles tend to be highly social, meaning they get along with other animals and people outside of the immediate family environment.
Training a Bernedoodle requires patience, consistency, and rewards. A Bernedoodle is intelligent and eager to please, so he or she will respond positively to positive reinforcement-based training. Start with basic commands such as 'sit' and 'come' which can be quickly mastered. Once these are learned, you can move on to more complex training like teaching them tricks. Make sure to reward them each time they successfully complete a command and gradually increase the difficultly over time.
