A Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle. This crossbreed has become increasingly popular due to their intelligence, affection, and loyalty. Bernedoodles are typically cheerful and eager to please, making them great family companions. They are usually lowto non-shedding, and most have a wavy, hypoallergenic coat. They generally range in size from 25-55 lbs depending on whether the Poodle parent is a Standard or Miniature, although some may be larger or smaller.
The Bernedoodle coat is typically a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, making them a hybrid breed. Their coat may vary in color and texture from individual to individual, but is most commonly a wavy, low-shedding, softer coat with a glossy finish. Generally, Bernedoodles with more Poodle in them will have a finer, more wavy coat, while ones with more Bernese Mountain Dog genes may have a longer, coarser coat.
Bernedoodles typically have the same dietary needs as other cross-breed dogs. As such, they should have a high-quality diet based on their age and activity level, as well as specific ingredients to meet their individual needs. It is generally recommended to feed Bernedoodles mainly meat-based proteins like lean beef, chicken, and fish, as well as wholesome fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids for optimum health. Furthermore, avoiding treats with excessive fats, artificial ingredients and colors is also recommended.
Creating a comfortable and safe home for your new Bernedoodle is an important step for any pet owner. Start by baby-proofing your home. Check that any cords, cords, and small objects are out of your pup’s reach, and make sure there are no toxic or hazardous items they could get into. Next, it’s time to create a cozy space for them. You’ll want to have their bed, food bowl, toys, and grooming supplies in a designated area that they can call their own.
Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes depending on their parent breeds. On one end of the spectrum, they can be mini or toy Bernedoodles, ranging from about 10 to 24 pounds, while on the other end, they can be giant Bernedoodles weighing anywhere from 70 to 90+ pounds. In between these two extremes, the most common Bernedoodle sizes are small, medium, and standard. These typically weigh in at 25 to 49 pounds, 50 to 69 pounds, and more than 70 pounds respectively.
Every Bernedoodle is different, so there isn't a definitive answer to this question. Generally speaking, however, Bernedoodles should get thirty minutes to one hour of exercise each day. If your Bernedoodle is a relatively calm puppy, then thirty minutes will likely suffice. On the other hand, more active Bernedoodles may need more time up to one hour for their daily exercise. A great way to ensure your Bernedoodle gets the right amount of activity is to consult a vet and/or professional trainer.
