Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are the perfect mix between two special breeds: the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. They are known for being loyal, intelligent, loving, and family-friendly. They have a long lifespan, typically 12-15 years. They are also a hypoallergenic breed, meaning those who have allergies to pets can have them without trouble. Bernedoodles are also very versatile and can do anything from being a service dog to doing agility and dock diving.
Bernedoodles have a variety of coat types, all of which are a combination of the Poodle's curly and the Bernese Mountain Dog's silky long coats. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles will have a mix of the two in different combinations, and their coats will range from wiry, loose curls to thick, fluffy cords. Coat colors commonly seen in Bernedoodles are black, white, brown, grey and brindle. The Bernedoodle’s coat does require regular brushing, especially to keep it from tangling and matting.
Bernedoodles generally have the same dietary needs of other Doodle breeds. However, as with any breed, it is important to pay attention to your Bernedoodle's individual dietary needs, as some might require more protein, less carbohydrates or other adjustments. It is important to consult with your vet to ensure that your Bernedoodle is getting all of the necessary vitamins, minerals and amino acids that they need for proper nutrition. For puppy Bernedoodles, a diet high in protein and fat during their growth period is critical for developing strong muscles and tissue.
Preparing for your new Bernedoodle is an important part of making sure that you are providing the best care possible. It is a good idea to research the breed you are bringing home so that you can best meet their needs and provide them with a loving and comfortable home. You should ensure that all necessary items such as a bed, food, bowls, toys, and a collar are purchased before your Bernedoodle arrives. You will also need to plan out a housetraining and obedience training schedule for your pup, researching the best methods for both.
Bernedoodles, also known as Bernese Mountain Poo-Dles, are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Although they typically grow to be between 18 and 27 inches tall, their size can range from small to large. Typically, Bernedoodles that only have a Bernese Mountain Dog parent are medium to large in size and the ones that have a mix of both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle can be anywhere from small to large, depending on the size of the parents.
Bernedoodles need a reasonable amount of exercise to maintain good health and body condition. Depending on the age and activity level of the dog, the amount of exercise necessary will vary. Typically, for younger, more active Bernedoodles, a minimum of two walks a day is recommended. Older dogs may need only one walk, but may benefit from a few shorter walks or regular playtime. Also, regular playtime is important to keep Bernedoodles mentally stimulated and physically active. Mental stimulation may include activities such as engaging puzzles and active toy play.
Bernedoodles are known for being a great family dog! Bernedoodles have a wonderful combination of traits that make them great companions. They are loyal, loving, and have a docile temperament, meaning they are patient and calm around children. Additionally, Bernedoodles are known for being intelligent, so they make great playmates who will stimulate and entertain their families. They are also social animals who love to keep their family entertained. Bernedoodles are relatively easy to train and can learn commands quickly.
It really depends on what type of training you are looking to do with your Bernedoodle. If you are simply looking to go on walks and teach basic commands, then around 20 minutes per day should be fine. If you are interested in more advanced training, such as agility or scent work, then 30 minutes per day might be a better amount of time. Some owners may even choose to dedicate an hour or more of training each day, depending on their Bernedoodles learning ability.
