Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, and are extremely intelligent, friendly and sociable. They love the outdoors, making them great adventure buddies! They boast a low-shedding coat, so they make great indoor pets as well. Bernedoodles enjoy a long lifespan up to 15 years, and they can come in different colors such as sable, tri-colored, and brindle. They can also vary in size from small 12 lbs to large 80 lbs.
Bernedoodles can be considered non-shedding since they are bred with a Bernese Mountain Dog which has an extremely low shedding coat, and a Poodle which is non-shedding. Depending on what generation Bernedoodle you have, the shedding can vary. F1 and F1b Bernedoodles will have slightly more shedding due to the more dense Bernese Mountain Dog coat, but comparable to most other breeds of dogs. F2 and Multi-generation Bernedoodles will have an extremely minimal to non-existent shedding.
Bernedoodles, just like any other breed of dog, have unique dietary needs. While there is no one-size-fits-all diet for Bernedoodles, most require a diet with a balance of fresh lean meats, low-fat dairy, and a variety of healthy carbohydrates. While their needs may vary depending on their age, lifestyle, and overall health, a diet tailored to their specific needs is essential for healthy and happy Bernedoodles.
Becoming the best puppy parent while waiting for your Bernedoodle is an achievable goal. First, you should take the time to research the Bernedoodle breed. Study the basics, such as breed characteristics, life expectancy, temperament, health concerns, and common grooming needs. Creating a stable routine and setting expectations and limits for your new puppy are incredibly important. Make sure your house is puppy-proofed to create a safe environment. Establish a general feeding, sleeping, and exercise schedule.
Bernedoodles are typically considered to be of a larger size when compared to other popular dog breeds. They possess a mixed heritage that includes a Bernese Mountain Dog parent and a Poodle parent, which generally makes them larger than the average dog. While their exact size will depend on the size of their Bernese Mountain Dog parent, they typically stand between 20 to 28 inches and weigh anywhere from 50 to 90 pounds. All in all, Bernedoodles can be quite large dogs that would make great companions for those looking for a big pup.
Bernedoodles, like any other breed, need regular exercise to stay healthy. As a hybrid with origins from both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, a Bernedoodle benefits from physical stimulation and activity that can come from daily walk and/or short play sessions. However, the amount and type of exercise that a Bernedoodle requires will vary depending on its size, age, and energy level. As a general guideline, it's suggested that larger breeds need approximately 60 minutes of exercise per day, while smaller varieties do well with about 30 minutes.
Bernedoodles make wonderful family dogs due to their charming and attentive nature. With a Bernese Mountain Dog for a parent, they share its kind demeanor and playful spirit, as well as extreme loyalty, yet with a Poodle they boast more intelligence and a very low-shedding coat. Bernedoodles are known to be excellent companion dogs due to their affectionate nature, and they will happily join in family activities or cuddle up for a nap. They also boast a natural socialization with humans and have gentle temperaments, making them great companions for both children and adults.
The amount of daily exercise a Bernedoodle needs depends on their age, size, and activity level. Generally speaking, a good rule of thumb is to provide your Bernedoodle at least 40-60 minutes of exercise a day. This could include a daily walk, jog, or playtime depending on your Bernedoodle's fitness level and what activities you have available. Remember to always offer a balanced diet, plenty of rest, and mental stimulation along with the physical exercise, to keep your Bernedoodle as healthy as possible.
