Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a designer breed, a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Although each Bernedoodle can vary in size and appearance, generally they are affectionate, loyal, and intelligent dogs with hypoallergenic fur. They have a low shedding coat and require grooming every 4 – 6 weeks. Bernedoodles are commonly used as therapy and assistance dogs do to their calm, obedient temperaments. The breed is usually considered a medium size dog with Bernedoodles ranging from mini (around 25 lbs) to standard (around 70 lbs).
Bernedoodles are often marketed as a hypoallergenic breed, but they are not technically hypoallergenic. While they may produce less fur and dander than other breeds, they are not completely free of allergens which could cause a reaction. It is important to remember that all animals will shed a certain amount of fur, dander, and saliva, all of which can cause allergic reactions in certain people. So while Bernedoodles may be a breed that is considered more allergy-friendly than some other breeds, they may not be the right breed for everyone.
Bernedoodles can be equally at home in an urban environment as they are in a rural one, so the best dog food for them will vary depending on the dog's lifestyle and activity level. Generally speaking, dog food designed for large breeds and high-energy dogs will work best for Bernedoodles, ideally kibble that is rich in animal proteins and carbohydrates to fuel the breed's active lifestyle. Look for food that is low in grains and fillers, including wheat, corn, soy, by-products, and artificial flavors or colors.
To properly prepare your home for a Bernedoodle, you should ensure your home is safe and comfortable for your new furry family member. Start by puppy-proofing your house, moving any potentially hazardous objects out of reach. Next, create a cozy sleeping area that will allow your new pup to sleep undisturbed. This should include a place for them to snooze, durable toys for playing, and plenty of fresh water. Make sure to also purchase the appropriate grooming and care supplies for your Bernedoodle, such as a brush, nail clippers, and shampoo.
Bernedoodles are a mix between the Bernese mountain dog and a poodle, usually a standard poodle, and they can vary in size depending on which parent the puppy more closely resembles. Generally, a full grown Bernedoodle can range in size from about 25 to 30 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 40 to 80 pounds. Therefore, it's hard to definitively answer the question of how big do Bernedoodles get since every pup is unique and can definitely vary in size. Ultimately, Bernedoodles are considered to be a medium-large dog breed.
Bernedoodles generally need about an hour of exercise per day, which is broken down into two 30 minute walks per day. Every individual Bernedoodle is different so they may need more or less time based on their individual energy levels and age. If you want to make sure your Bernedoodle is getting all the exercise they need for optimal health, it's best to consult with your veterinarian regarding the amount of exercise they recommend for your particular pup.
Bernedoodles, a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, make wonderful pets for first-time owners. They are known to be affectionate, loyal, and intelligent. Bernedoodles are usually very eager to please and are easily trainable. They enjoy being around people and having lots of company, so they’re not happiest when left alone all day. Some Bernedoodles may have a bit of an independent streak, so they need an owner who is willing to work on training and give them consistent leadership.
It ultimately depends on the age and activity level of your Bernedoodle. Generally speaking, adult Bernedoodles require about 30-60 minutes of physical activity per day in the form of walking, running, or playing fetch. Puppies, on the other hand, usually require about 10-20 minutes of interactive play with toys, with the sessions broken up into small increments throughout the day. When physical activity isn't available, providing enrichment activities such as finding food-filled toys, chews, and puzzles is always a great option.
