Bernedoodles are a cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, and they belong to the hybrid/designer dog class. These dogs are typically hypoallergenic and known for their intelligence and loyalty due to their parent breeds. Bernedoodles have a range of coat types, depending if their parent Poodle is astandard, miniature or toy size, and how much of the Bernese Mountain Dog heritage remains. The coat colors can include black, white, gray, sable, and shades of brown and rust.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed that is created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. As a result, the amount of shedding your Bernedoodle does should depend largely on which breed dominates their genetic makeup. Poodles are non-shedding by nature and their hair is replaced by their Poodle parentage. In contrast, Bernese Mountain Dogs, while not considered hefty shedders, are not considered non-shedding.
Bernedoodles may have dietary needs that are not common among other breeds of dogs. Generally speaking, they are not prone to excessive finickiness and thrive on a diet of high-quality, well-balanced dry and wet food. Because Bernedoodles have a tendency to overeat and suffer from obesity, it's important to take measures to keep portions moderated and be aware of the amount of calories they are consuming. Before you bring a Bernedoodle home, it's important to prepare your home for its arrival. First, familiarize yourself with basic grooming supplies such as pet shampoo, nail clippers, and a comb.
