Bernedoodles are a designer hybrid breed between Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle breeds. They are a cross between the two popular breeds, and they typically exhibit the best characteristics of both. They tend to be loyal, intelligent, energetic, and social. Depending on the ratio of their Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parents, they can vary in size from 20–40 pounds and will have a soft coat that ranges in colors. They require consistent, positive training and are very well suited to home lifestyles because of their lowto non-shedding coats, friendly demeanor, and intelligence.
The Bernedoodle coat is unique and varied, as is their appearance. Depending on whether they are a F1, F1b, or F2 generation they will have either a shaggy, wavy, or curly coat. The Bernedoodle coat can be anywhere from minimal to heavily weighted with fur, coming in a variety of colors including grey and black, brown and black, and sable. This multi-colored coating is created when different colored guard hairs on the coat overlap, producing a much darker color throughout the entire coat.
