Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a cross breed between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. This unique combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle creates a hybrid dog that is known to be extremely intelligent, loving, and loyal. Bernedoodles are also quite low-shedding and often hypo-allergenic due to the low-shedding Poodle genes. What's even more impressive about the Bernedoodle is their longevity, because with proper care, Bernedoodles can live for up to 15 years.
Generally, Bernedoodles are considered hypo-allergenic dogs that are less likely to cause allergies in people than other breeds. However, it is impossible to guarantee that you will not suffer from any adverse effects, like sneezing, watery eyes, or skin irritation. You may be more sensitive to the Bernedoodle’s coat or saliva, and it’s also possible that you could be allergic to the breed itself.
It is important to know what not to feed your Bernedoodle. Generally, you should avoid feeding them human food, such as candy, cake, or table scraps, as it can be unbalanced and unhealthy for your pet. Additionally, monitor treats as some may contain unhealthy ingredients and some may make your Bernedoodle gain weight. Certain fruits and vegetables contain chemicals that can upset your dog's stomach, so it is best to give them treats made specifically for dogs or research whether the treat is healthy for your dog.
Before getting a Bernedoodle, it is essential to have all the necessary supplies such as a collar, harness and leash, food and water dishes, a bed, toys, grooming supplies, training treats, and a crate. It is also important to plan ahead and set aside time for regular walks and playtime, as well as regular veterinary checkups and vaccinations. Additionally, Bernedoodles need regular brushing to keep their coat looking health and clean, so it is essential to research the best type of brush and grooming products to use to ensure that your Bernedoodle is always looking their best.
Bernedoodles can come in different sizes depending on the parents from which they come, but typically they are considered a smallto medium-sized breed. According to the designer breed registry, Bernedoodles usually measure between 18 and 23 inches tall and weigh between 45 and 55 pounds. So compared to some other breeds, Bernedoodles are on the smaller side and can easily fit into most homes with either a yard or a city apartment. That being said, Bernedoodles do need regular exercise and mental stimulation, so they may not be the best fit for couch potatoes.
Bernedoodles are considered to be an active breed, and as such they need at least 1 hour of exercise a day to maintain their health and happiness. This can include daily walks, games of fetch, hiking, swimming, or puzzle toys to keep them mentally stimulated. They may also require access to an outdoor space, such as a fenced in backyard, to get their required physical activity level. This breed is extremely intelligent, so they should also receive plenty of mental stimulation and training throughout the day.
Bernedoodles are a great choice for households with children. These extraordinary crossbreeds exhibit desirable traits from both the Standard Poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog, making them excellent family pets. Bernedoodles are generally described as loyal, intelligent, loving companions with a mild temperament. They are known for their docile nature and low-energy personality, but don't let that fool you; they still love to play with children and offer plenty of cuddles.
Training a Bernedoodle is not necessarily easy, but it is certainly doable with patience and commitment. It's important to dedicate time to socializing the pup and teaching them basic commands. Consistency is key when it comes to training, so it's important to reward and reinforce good behavior whenever the pup responds correctly. Keeping the lessons short and sweet will help the pup stay focused and enjoy the process. Additionally, positive reinforcement and lots of rewarding treats will help make the pup more eager to learn and help them store what you've taught them better.
