Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a hybrid of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. It is a designer dog whose purpose is to combine the best features of both its parent breeds. Bernedoodles are typically loyal, friendly, and intelligent buddies, with a loving temperament that will make them perfect family pets. Their coats come in three types: wavy, fluffy, and straight. They can be as small as 7 lbs or as big as 90 lbs and come in a range of colors including black, white, and combinations of both.
The coats of Bernedoodles vary, depending on the genetics of the parent breeds. Generally speaking, their coats are soft, luxurious, and wavy. The coats are sometimes straight and can range from long to short in length. The texture is generally hypoallergenic and moderate to low-shedding. The colors usually focus on a sable tricolor (black, tan, and white) but may also include merle, golden, and cream. Bernedoodles also develop their own unique look that cannot be found in any other breed.
Bernedoodles have a diet slightly different than that of other breeds. They need the right balance of proteins, healthy fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water. It is generally recommended to feed them a high quality dry dog food, approximately 2-3 cups, twice a day. Be sure to provide fresh drinking water at all times and combine kibble with wet food if your Bernedoodle prefers it. Other sources of protein, such as eggs, cheese, canned fish and cooked beef can be offered as well. Treats can also be given in moderation.
Preparing your home for a new Bernedoodle is a fun and exciting process. Make sure that you have everything necessary to make your pup comfortable in their new environment, such as food and water dishes, bedding, and safe toys. Ensure that their new home has plenty of space for exercise and play, such as a yard or other designated areas. Moreover, you will also need to puppy proof your home, securing anything that could be broken, chewed, or swallowed.
Bernedoodles are hybrid breed dogs that result from crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Generally, these dogs are considered to be of a medium size and weighing around 30-50 pounds. They typically reach heights between 18-24 inches tall. While not considered to be "big dogs", they are certainly large enough to require some extra care and attention in comparison to smaller breeds. They tend to have very pleasing personalities and high energy levels, so it is important to make sure they get the necessary exercise and mental stimulation.
Bernedoodles, like all dogs, need appropriate exercise for their size and age. A young Bernedoodle requires more exercise than an older one. A healthy adult will need about an hour of physical activity each day. Depending on your dog and the environment in which you live, this may include walks, runs, jogs, hikes, play and activities. Good activities for Bernedoodles include swimming, playing fetch, and training in agility and obedience competitions. The breed also enjoys mental stimulation, so make sure to incorporate plenty of mental exercises into their daily routine.
Bernedoodles are renowned for their endless patience and caring disposition. Specifically, they are often a great fit for households with young children, as they have been known to be completely dedicated and protective of their families. Bernedoodles typically have an affinity for kids, being patient with them and making a great playmate. To add to the appeal, they are easy to train, understand basic commands quickly, and surprisingly, are quite affectionate with children.
Training a Bernedoodle can be both challenging and rewarding. They are usually eager to please their owners, but can be quite stubborn at times. It may take patience and consistency to train them, but with dedication and a treat or two, Bernedoodles can be taught to mind their manners and follow basic commands. To encourage the best behavior, provide plenty of positive reinforcement and plenty of opportunities for play. Depending on what you want to teach your dog, you can either enlist the help of a professional trainer or teach them yourself with some research and practice.
