Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a designer breed dog created by mating a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Standard Poodle. Bernedoodles come in many sizes, colors, and coat types. They are a very intelligent and affectionate breed, and are loyal family members that make great companions. Bernedoodles are generally gentle and easily trained as they inherit the intelligence and problem-solving abilities of both their parent breeds. Bernedoodles are also very social and friendly, making them great therapy dogs. They are active and enjoy playing with toys and participating in sports or outdoor activities.
TheBernedoodle coat is typically dense and curly or wavy, with a texture that lies somewhere between wool and fleece. Generally, the coat is hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for people with pet allergies. Bernedoodle coats can come in a variety of colors, including blues, blues and tans, reds, silvers, and grays. Bernedoodles require a decent amount of grooming to maintain their wavy locks; regular brushing and professional grooming sessions every few months are recommended.
Knowing what not to feed your Bernedoodle is essential for helping them stay healthy. First of all, you should not feed your Bernedoodle human food unless you know that it is safe for them. Many human foods, while they may be delicious to us, can be dangerous for your pup. It is a good idea to research what foods are toxic for dogs specifically and always avoid feeding these to your Bernedoodle.
Becoming the best puppy parent before welcoming your Bernedoodle into your home begins with research. Gaining an understanding of a Bernedoodle's general temperament, exercise needs, and health concerns help prepare you for the arrival of your new pup. Once you brush up on information specific to your Bernedoodle breed, focus on assembling the essentials for your new pup. Invest in quality toys, food, and crate to ensure that your Bernedoodle is happy, safe, and comfortable in its new home.
Bernedoodles can vary in size, due to their parent breeds usually a Standard Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog. Bernedoodles can usually reach a maximum size of between 25–29 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 50–90 pounds. They can also vary in size depending on whether they are a "Mini Bernedoodle" a cross between a Toy or Miniature Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog which tend to reach a maximum size of 18–22 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 15–49 pounds.
It is recommended that Bernedoodles get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Depending on the age, size, and overall health of your Bernedoodle, that time can be broken up into multiple walks or one longer walk. We suggest talking to your veterinarian to get a better idea of what is best for your specific dog as all Bernedoodles have different needs. In addition to a daily walk, it is important to do some other type of exercise as well, such as playing fetch, swimming, or agility training.
Bernedoodles are highly sociable, gentle, and loving dogs and generally get along very well with kids of all ages. Because they are a mix between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, and both breeds are known for their friendliness and intelligence, Bernedoodles make wonderful family pets. They can act as a great companion to kids, as they are loyal, playfully affectionate, and loyal.
Training your Bernedoodle is a great way to create a close bond between you and your beloved pet. The first step is to establish yourself as the leader of the pack, which you can do by providing your Bernedoodle with clear and consistent boundaries. Be sure to reward your pup with treats and verbal praise after every successful command, and be patient and understanding when it takes them longer to learn something new. Additionally, routine is important to your Bernedoodle’s training, as it can help your pup understand what is expected of them each day.
