Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are an interesting hybrid breed between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. They are known for being intelligent, highly trainable, loyal, and loving. Bernedoodles come in many sizes, colors, and coat types, making them incredibly diverse and customizable, based on your lifestyle and preferences. On top of that, Bernedoodles have relatively low grooming requirements and are not known to shed too much. What's more, Bernedoodles are known to be sociable and outgoing, making them a great family pet as well.
The Bernedoodle coat is quite unique. It can be a mix between a Bernese Mountain Dog's thick, wavy double coat and a Poodle's curly coat or a straight coat. Depending on the genetics, a Bernedoodle can have a coat that's shorter and less wavy, longer and more wavy, or a mix of both. The coat tends to be lighter in color than a Bernese Mountain Dog, but can vary from shades of black, white, or chocolate.
Bernedoodles are an interesting combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. As a result, their dietary needs may reflect traits from either breed. Generally, Bernedoodles need a high-quality diet that is rich in proteins and low in fats. Protein sources should be derived from lean meats, such as fish, chicken, and turkey. You should also consider adding dark green, leafy vegetables to your Bernedoodle's diet for additional vitamins and minerals.
Bernedoodles generally require the same basic care needs that other dogs do, so there aren't any special requirements for them. They do need exercise, a healthy diet, regular check-ups with the vet, grooming, and plenty of attention from their owners. As Bernedoodles can have different coat lengths, depending on the parents, they may need tailored grooming techniques specific to the length and type of their individual coat.
Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes. The smallest is a Mini Bernedoodle, which stands between 12-17 inches in height and can weigh between 15 and 30 pounds. If you'd prefer something a bit larger, you can opt for a Small Bernedoodle, which stands between 18-22 inches tall and weighs between 30 and 45 pounds. A Medium Bernedoodle is about 23-28 inches tall and typically weighs between 45 and 65 pounds, and a Standard Bernedoodle is typically 28-35 inches tall and weighs between 65-100 pounds.
Generally speaking, Bernedoodles should be taken on between 30 and 60 minutes of exercise per day, depending on their age and activity level. If your Bernedoodle is a young puppy, a longer walk or exercise session may be too much for them, so it is important not to overdo it. For older Bernedoodles, a more lengthy walk can be beneficial. This can be broken down into two 15-20 minute walks or one longer session. It is recommended to keep the walk relatively comfortable, and be mindful of the temperature and amount of stimulation.
Bernedoodles are generally a great choice for families with kids! With their friendly and energetic personalities, Bernedoodles make loyal companions that thrive on spending time with their family making them an ideal buddy for children of all ages. Bernedoodles typically possess low-shedding coats and hypoallergenic qualities, making them excellent for households with children who have allergies or sensitivities. Additionally, because Bernedoodle puppies are quick to learn and eager to please, they can easily learn basic obedience commands, which can help your family stay organized.
Training is an important part of a Bernedoodle's life, and the amount of time you need to dedicate to it each day depends on various factors. Generally, you should plan on at least 15 minutes every day to reinforce obedience commands, make progress on any specialized commands you may want your Bernedoodle to learn, and keep your pup mentally stimulated. Depending on the progress made and the individual situation, additional training time may be needed. As a rule of thumb, the more time you put in the better the results you will get.
