Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a popular designer breed of dog that has become increasingly popular in recent years. They are a mix of two distinct breeds: the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. The result is a clever hybrid breed that is known to have a gentle, loyal, and loving personality. As family-friendly companions, Bernedoodles are often sought out for their lowto non-shedding coats, unique markings, and intelligence.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid, crossbred between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. This breed has a variety of traits that depend on the type of Poodle they’re crossbred with, including size and coat type. A Bernedoodle can range from the “miniature” size which is a Standard Poodle crossed with a Mini Bernese Mountain Dog, to the “giant” size which is a Standard Poodle crossed with a Giant Bernese Mountain Dog.
Bernedoodles typically require a balanced, moderately high-quality diet that includes plenty of protein and nutrients from fresh fruits and vegetables. Their dietary needs often vary based on their age, activity level, health status, genetics, and overall health. A veterinarian should be consulted to determine the right feeding plan and nutrient needs for your particular Bernedoodle. In general, Bernedoodles need regular meals with plenty of water to keep hydrated and healthy. Like all dogs, Bernedoodles should be fed at least twice a day and never overfed.
Before getting a Bernedoodle, there are a few essentials you should consider. It is important to have a comfortable dog bed, chew toys, a collar and leash, a brush and comb, food/water bowls, nail clippers, and treats. To make your pup's experience more enjoyable, consider having an enclosed safe outdoor area for them to explore, a grooming area, and a pet first-aid kit. Research the food you'll feed your dog to make sure it will meet their nutritional needs, as well as treats that will be appropriate given their size and characteristics.
Bernedoodles are considered medium-sized dogs, though they can range from small to large depending on the type of parent breeds used in their cross-breeding process. Generally, the most common Bernedoodles are standard-sized, with some as small as 10-45 pounds and some as large as 60-100 pounds. Little Bernedoodles are rare and tend to stay between 10-30 pounds. It is important to note that regardless of size, Bernedoodles are considered intelligent and lovable pets by all.
Bernedoodles generally adore getting in the water and swimming! This is especially true for Bernedoodles who have warm weather climates. Since the Bernese mountain dog is a breed of dog that were bred to work outdoors, they often have a strong love for water. Some Bernedoodle puppies are very eager to take swimming lessons and learn how to enjoy the water. Bernedoodles who already know how to swim, often enjoy it a lot and can even be seen splashing around happily in a pool or lake.
Bernedoodles are an excellent option for first-time pet owners. Bernedoodles are an affectionate and loving breed that can bond deeply with their family and make fantastic companions. These designer dogs have an even temperament and get along well with children and other pets. They are also high-energy dogs that love to play and explore whether it be walking, jogging, or a game of fetch. Additionally, Bernedoodles are trainable due to their intelligence and make for great therapy or service dogs.
Bernedoodles need to be mentally and physically exercised to stay healthy and happy, but how much exercise they need will depend on the individual animal and how much energy it has. It is recommended to exercise them for at least 30 minutes to an hour per day, but ideally, they should be exercised for closer to two hours each day. Everyone's schedule is different, but if you're able to carve out anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half for your Bernedoodle's physical activity, that should be plenty to keep them engaged and happy.
