Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed of dog created through a mix of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. They are considered excellent family pets due to their intelligence, good-natured personality, and hypoallergenic qualities. Bernedoodles often have wavy fur, and they come in a variety of colors, from black and white to apricot and merle. These pups usually live about 12-15 years and typically weigh anywhere from 20-50 pounds. Bernedoodles also tend to have a lot of energy and love to play and explore.
Bernedoodles may be considered a hypoallergenic breed due to their hybrid mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle; the two parent breeds are both non-shedding. That said, there is no completely hypoallergenic breed, and Bernedoodles can still cause allergies. The level of shedding and amount of dander that a Bernedoodle produces can vary among individuals, as it does with all breeds.
Bernedoodles can have specific dietary needs depending on their individual genetics, activity level, and health. Generally speaking, a Bernedoodle's diet should include high-quality proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals to support their growth and development. Meals should be tailored to the Bernedoodle's size and activity level by their veterinarian. Supplements may also be beneficial depending on the individual needs of the pup.
Bernedoodles do have a few specific needs that owners should be aware of. Firstly, they often require more activity than other breeds due to their energy and enthusiasm. This means owners should be prepared to dedicate adequate time and energy to walking, running, and playing with their Bernedoodles. Secondly, Bernedoodles need regular grooming. Regular brushing of their coats will help prevent matting and remove loose fur, and trimming of their nails is necessary. Finally, these dogs need regular veterinary checkups to help keep them healthy.
Bernedoodles come in three standard sizes: Miniature, Medium, and Standard. The Miniature Bernedoodle usually stands around 12-17 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 15-35 lbs. The Medium Bernedoodle stands between 18-21 inches tall and weighs between 30-50 lbs. The Standard Bernedoodle stands taller at 22-29 inches and can weigh anywhere from 50-90 lbs. On occasion, Bernedoodles can reach larger sizes, depending on the size of the parent breeds.
Bernedoodles require quite a bit of exercise to stay healthy and maintain their bouncy, loving personalities. An ideal daily routine for a Bernedoodle would include at least 45 minutes of vigorous exercise, such as jogging, brisk walking, or playing fetch. In addition to the exercise, Bernedoodles can benefit from mental exercise as well, so activities such as agility training, treibball, and hiking can provide your pup with a well-rounded workout.
Bernedoodles are a perfect choice for families who are looking for a friendly, loyal, and intelligent dog. They are loyal and devoted companions who love to cuddle and get along with children of all ages. Bernedoodles are usually lowto non-shedding, so they can be great for allergy-sensitive family members. They are also incredibly intelligent and easy to train for obedience and tricks. Exercise is important for a Bernedoodle to get enough mental and physical stimulation, but they don't need extremely long or strenuous exercise periods.
Training a Bernedoodle can be a rewarding experience when done properly. It is recommended to start as early as possible, preferably when the Bernedoodle is between 8 and 10 weeks old. Set up a routine that includes consistency and repetition of commands. Start by teaching your Bernedoodle basic commands such as sit, stay, and come. Once these commands have been mastered, continue building the skill set by including more advanced commands such as heel, find, and leave it. Be sure to use treats or positive reinforcement to reward your Bernedoodle for tasks completed successfully.
