Bernedoodles are becoming an increasingly popular designer crossbreed, combining the best of both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle! They are extremely intelligent and train easily, while their medium-energy level makes them a great fit for active urban families. Bernedoodles also make loyal and affectionate companions, and are wonderful therapy dogs, due to their even temperaments. These breed characteristics make them great for families with small children, as they require little grooming, have minimal to no shedding, and are generally very gentle.
Bernedoodles, like all other Doodle breeds, can be a great option for people with allergies. As designer dogs, there is not a reliable way to guarantee a Bernedoodle is hypoallergenic. However, the Bernedoodle does have a parent breed which is hypoallergenic, the Poodle. Its other parent, the Bernese Mountain Dog, is not hypoallergenic. Therefore, it is possible that some Bernedoodles may be hypoallergenic.
Feeding your Bernedoodle can vary depending on their age, lifestyle, and health. Generally, Bernedoodles should be fed with a high quality, nutrient-rich, balanced diet. Talk to your vet if you're unsure whether to provide wet, dry, or a mix of both. Consider an easily digestible food that provides a complete and balanced diet as well as supplements for enhanced nutrition. To stay healthy, always provide your Bernedoodle with plenty of fresh, clean water throughout the day.
To prepare your home for a new Bernedoodle pup, start by pet-proofing your house; make sure all breakables or dangerous items (such as cords and plants) are out of reach. Next, purchase all necessary pet supplies, including food, bowls, leashes, and toys. Bernedoodles are not typically considered large dogs, though there is variation in size from breed to breed.
