Bernedoodles are truly exceptional dogs, and one of the most interesting things about them is their temperament. Not only do they tend to be loyal and affectionate with their owners, but these designer hybrid dogs are often very intelligent and easily trainable. They are also said to be exceptionally devoted to their families, possess excellent social skills, and enjoy activities that stimulate their minds. Furthermore, Bernedoodles tend to combine the outgoing, friendly personality of a poodle with the calming, laid-back characteristics of a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Bernedoodles are considered to be hypoallergenic, and typically considered non-shedding. The term non-shedding is somewhat subjective since all dogs shed, just to different degrees. Bernedoodles are unique in that they contain about 75% Poodle, lending the breed its low-shedding properties. While it is possible for some Bernedoodles to shed a bit, Bernedoodles as a whole are generally associated with being low-maintenance when it comes to grooming and leaving a low amount of hair in its environment.
Bernedoodles are considered an active breed and may require slightly more food than other breeds. Although each Bernedoodle is unique, they typically need a high-quality kibble that contains a good balance of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Depending on the Bernedoodle's activity level, some owners may need to adjust meal size and portion size accordingly. It is also recommended to have regular veterinary check-ups to ensure that your Bernedoodle is receiving the proper nutrition.
Purchasing items for a Bernedoodle before their arrival is an important part of responsbile pet ownership. At a minimum, be sure to have a dog bed, a crate, an appropriate collar and leash, nail clippers, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a brush, shampoo, and a variety of toys. Additionally, depending on the age of your Bernedoodle, age-appropriate food, potty-training items and treats, a pet first-aid kit, and puppy-proofing supplies (such as baby gates and puppy chew deterrents) would also be beneficial.
Bernedoodles, a hybrid of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, are considered small dogs if bred from Miniature Poodles, although size will vary depending on which size of Poodle is used. The Bernedoodle size can range from 18 to 100 pounds when fully grown. Generally, those bred from a Toy Poodle or Mini Poodle are considered small, those bred from a Standard Poodle are usually considered medium and those bred from a Giant Poodle or a Mix of Standard and Giant Poodle are considered large.
Bernedoodles, which are the cross-breeding of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, are usually a bit more active than their parent breeds. This means that while they don't need extensive exercise, they will need more playtime than more sedentary breeds to keep healthy and happy. To ensure that a Bernedoodle is getting sufficient exercise, a minimum of 20 minutes of activity a day is recommended, such as walks, runs, fetch, swimming or agility courses. They may also appreciate trips to the dog park or interactive playtime with their owners.
