Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle. It is a relatively new designer dog breed, created to combine the best traits of the two breeds. Bred to be highly intelligent and companionable, Bernedoodles are an excellent choice for families. They are friendly and energetic, but they are also known to be slightly more low-key and easy-going than other breeds. They tend to have minimal shedding, which makes them an even better option for those who have allergies.
Bernedoodles are hybrid dogs that combine genetic material from a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. As a result, their overall grooming needs and amount of spinning are variable and depend on the genetics of the individual. In general, Bernedoodles possess lighter coats that require minimal to moderate grooming and can be considered "non-shedding" when compared to more traditional canine breeds. Grooming standards for Bernedoodles range from bi-weekly to a few times a month at the very least.
Bernedoodles can eat a variety of different foods, depending on their age, breed, and health status. Generally, Bernedoodles should be fed a high-quality, nutritionally balanced, and varied diet. Puppies and adolescents may require more protein than adult Bernedoodles. An ideal diet for a Bernedoodle should consist of mostly dry kibble with a few healthy treats that use natural ingredients. Wet and canned food can also be a healthy addition to their diet but should be a smaller portion than the dry kibble.
Before bringing home your new Bernedoodle, you should do your research to understand the breed and their care requirements. Be sure to have the right supplies on hand such as a bed, food, bowls, grooming supplies, and toys so your Bernedoodle can start settling in as soon as they enter their new home. It's also important to research trainers and veterinarians in your area, as you'll need to look out for your Bernedoodle's health and behavior.
Bernedoodles areconsidered to be medium to large-sized dogs. The size of a Bernedoodle can vary quite a bit depending on its parent breeds. Generally, a standard Bernedoodle will weigh between 65 and 90 pounds, and stand at least 21 inches tall at the shoulder. This breed is also know to be good for families, as they tend to be calm, affectionate, and good with both children and other pets.
Generally speaking, Bernedoodles do enjoy swimming! They are considered to have a strong water instinct and do best with some sort of water related activity. As a loyal, eager, and flexible breed, Bernedoodles are suitable for activities such as swimming and retrieving. Furthermore, if properly trained, Bernedoodles can even be used for boat and dock-jumping activities. Additionally, swimming is a great form of exercise and mental stimulation for them. They love swimming and chasing after balls or toys, and usually enjoy every minute they spend in the water.
Bernedoodles typically have very easygoing personalities and generally do great with kids. They are both loyal and affectionate, which can make them a great furry companion for families with children. The breed is intelligent and easily trained, so it's possible to teach them commands when it comes to interacting with kids. Bernedoodles will need regular exercise and activities to keep them from getting bored, but they usually respond well to children playing with them or teaching them tricks. With patience and kindness, Bernedoodles can be a lovely pet to add to a family with kids.
Training Bernedoodles is an important part of providing them with a happy and healthy home. The amount of time needed to dedicate to training your Bernedoodle depends on how quickly they learn and the types of behaviors you're looking to teach. A general guideline is to plan on dedicating 15-30 minutes each day to training activities. This should be separated into several shorter training sessions throughout the day. While some puppies learn faster than others, consistency will be key in helping your Bernedoodle build strong behaviors and habits.
