Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, making them a very popular designer dog breed. These active, intelligent pups have a life expectancy of 12-15 years and come in an array of colors like Black, Black & tan, Fawn, Cream, blue, and silver. Despite appearing quite imposing, Bernedoodles are very gentle and affectionate. They love to play and get along well with everyone, from kids to other pets. Due to their Bernese Mountain Dog parentage, these dogs are perfectly suited for cold environments.
Bernedoodles can be considered hypoallergenic in some cases. This is because Poodles, the breed that contributes the non-shedding coat to the Bernedoodle, has a hypoallergenic coat. However, this is not always the case. It really depends on the Bernedoodle's parents and how much shedding and allergens each of them can produce. Additionally, Bernedoodles that are non-shedding may still produce allergens from their saliva, so they may not be completely hypoallergenic for everyone.
Knowing what not to feed your Bernedoodle is important to keeping them healthy and happy. It's best to consult with your veterinarian or do your own research to determine which foods are suitable for your pet. Some common foods to avoid include chocolate, caffeine, uncooked/raw meats, onions/onion powder, and salty or fatty foods. It's also important to only feed them food specifically designed for their age, breed, and size; feeding them too much or too little food can lead to health problems.
Preparing your home for a new Bernedoodle can be a fun and rewarding experience. Start by creating a safe environment for your pet by puppy-proofing the area. Remove any items that may pose a danger such as toxic cleaning products, open cords, and sharp objects. Having a designated area is important for potty training, such as a special spot with a grass mat, puppy pads, or pebbles. Make sure this area is easily accessible and free of disturbances.
Bernedoodles can vary in size, depending on the type of Bernedoodle you have. Generally speaking, a Standard Bernedoodle can grow to be anywhere from 25-35 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 55-90lbs. Miniature Bernedoodles can range between 18-22 inches tall and weigh up to 50 lbs. Micro Mini Bernedoodles are the smallest size, typically weighing 15-30 lbs and are around 10-15 inches tall. All Bernedoodles have the same gentle, and loving personality, regardless of their size.
Bernedoodles are active dogs that love to play and exercise. They are known for their intelligence and agility, which makes them suitable for activities such as dog sports, agility courses, and physical challenges. Bernedoodles can be found playing, jogging, and walking with their families. They are also social and outgoing, which makes them good candidates for activities such as heading to the park or beach for a swim and playing fetch. Their combination of energy and intelligence makes them excellent choices for a variety of activities from hiking to hunting, they’re always up for a fun time.
Bernedoodles are ideal for first-time pet owners as they are fairly easy to care for. Their patient and loving nature combines with low-shedding coats to make them an excellent companion. Bernedoodles have lots of energy and need a fair amount of physical exercise, but they are also content to curl up and keep you company. With little to no aggression issues and a moderate maintenance schedule, Bernedoodles make an excellent choice for first-time owners.
Training a Bernedoodle can be easy depending on the individual temperament and behaviors the particular pup brings with them. Bernedoodles are usually eager to please their owners, so if they are taught with positive reinforcement and consistency, they are usually able to pick up commands quickly. Just like humans, each animal is unique, so patience and understanding while instilling desired behaviors may be necessary. With socialization and companionship, your pup should acclimate to your family and home very quickly. Taking time to create a calm and steady environment for your puppy can help them to thrive in their new home.
