Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (often simply called Cavalier King Charles) are a small breed of dog that's a part of the toy group in the American Kennel Club. They are a regal lapdog, bred in the United Kingdom, that stands 12-13 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs roughly 15-18 lbs. Slovakian Emperor Charles the Fifth and his son, King Charles the Second of England, were the owners of the first known Cavalier King Charles and the breed is named after them as a result.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed is not considered hypoallergenic, meaning that they can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive people. While their coats aren't terribly dense or long, they do require frequent grooming and brushing to keep their coats from getting matted or tangled. If you or someone in your home is prone to allergies, then this breed may not be the best choice for you. Cavalier King Charles are generally an easy to care for breed, however they still have specific requirements of their owners. Generally, the Toy size will reach 8-12 pounds while the Ruby may reach a maximum of 18 pounds. The growth rate of your Cavalier King Charles puppy should not exceed more than 1 pound every two weeks until they reach full maturity.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs do need a fair amount of exercise. Generally, these dogs require at least a half hour of exercise per day. Depending on the energy level of your particular dog, this could range from a moderate walk or a more challenging hike.
