Cavaliers King Charles are a small-sized breed known for their happy, outgoing, and friendly personalities. As such, they make terrific companions for owners of all ages. They don't require a great deal of exercise, but they do need long walks and plenty of play time. Cavalier King Charles are Perfect for first-time owners or families, due to their overall hypoallergenic qualities and low-maintenance grooming requirements. They usually get along well with other dogs and cats, however they do not tolerate being alone for long periods of time and need plenty of attention and companionship.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCS) are not considered to be a hypoallergenic breed. This is mainly due to the fact that their coat does not produce very little dander-the small particles of skin that are a common allergen for humans. CKCSs have long, silky fur which increases the amount of dander they produce when compared to other breeds with a shorter coat. However, there are certain types of allergies that may be less severe when exposed to CKCSs.
Yes, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels do have special dietary needs. They require a balanced and nutritionally adequate diet in order to maintain their active lifestyle. Low-calorie, high-fiber foods with a moderate amount of fat and an appropriate amount of protein are ideal for these dogs. A diet with lean meats, fruits and veggies, and whole grain carbohydrates is recommended. Special diets with low grain content and, possibly, low fat can be helpful in controlling obesity, diabetes, and allergic skin issues.
