Cavalier King Charles is a breed of small companion dog that was the result of crossing Toy Spaniels with Pugs during the reign of King Charles II. However, due to their sweet-natured temperament and their impressive physical beauty, they have become a favorite breed among many pet-lovers. The average Cavalier King Charles is typically a relaxed, gentle, and friendly pooch, yet they can be surprisingly curious and brave when necessary. They are also extremely intelligent and easy to train and socialize, but they do need to be given adequate exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel coat is beautiful, richly colored and luxurious. It is medium length, silky and wavy with a feathering of longer hairs at the legs, ears and tail. It can be any color or combination of colors, including black and tan, ruby, blenheim, tricolor and ruby and tan, though blenheim is the most popular. It requires combing and brushing at least twice a week, plus occasional trips to the groomer, to keep the coat free of mats and tangles.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs tend to be enthusiastic eaters and thrive on a diet of commercial dry or canned dog food.
