Questions & Answers
The Cavalier King Charles is a beautiful and charming Toy Spaniel that has been gaining more popularity as a pet over the years in the United States. They typically weigh between 12-18 pounds and have rich, luxurious coats in colors such as ruby, Blenheim (white and chestnut) and tricolor (black, tan and white). These dogs are quite friendly, enjoy being around people, and can make a wonderful addition to the family. They are also known for how into their owners they are, and can even be quite protective of them.
While many dog breeds boast of being non-shedding, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is among the few dogs that are truly none-shedding. Due to their thick double coat that includes a short, fine undercoat and long, profuse topcoat, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is virtually non-shedding and extremely popular with those who despise dog hair all over the house. The breed also shares a unique trait of hairlessness or lack of body-hair on ears and forehead, which gives them the look of a smooth coat throughout.
When it comes to feeding a Cavalier King Charles, there are certain foods that should be avoided. The breed is particularly prone to a number of dietary-related issues, such as obesity, so care should be taken when deciding what to feed. Things like chocolate, raisins, currants, onions, garlic, grapes and macadamia nuts should all be avoided, as these can make your Cavalier King Charles very ill. Foods that contain excessive amounts of fat, sugar and preservatives should also be avoided.
When preparing to get a Cavalier King Charles, it's essential to make sure you have key items ready. You want to ensure you have food specifically designed for them, toys and treats to keep them entertained, and a comfortable bed they can relax in. Additionally, having the appropriate grooming supplies is important to keep them healthy and looking good. Grooming supplies like brushes, nail clippers, and shampoo are a must. You will also need proper-sized crates and/or gates to protect them from getting into any trouble they shouldn't.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in a range of sizes depending on the breed! Generally, the breed can come in four sizes Toy, which usually ranges between 8-10 inches for females and 9-11 inches for males, Small, which usually ranges between 11-13 inches for females and 12-14 inches for males, Average, which usually ranges between 14-16 inches for females and 15-17 inches for males, and Large, which usually ranges between 17-19 inches for females and 18-20 inches for males.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a natural affinity for swimming, and many of them thoroughly enjoy it! Generally speaking, this breed is quite active when it comes to water sports. Many of them will jump right into a pond or lake without hesitation, and some of them might even be so taken with it that they'll want to swim alongside you. They typically don't need to be trained to become comfortable with swimming, either. It's usually something that comes naturally, and many of them will enjoy it more as they relieve pent-up energy they may have.
Absolutely! Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are typically very loving and gentle family dogs. Their calm and even temperament make them an ideal choice for families with children. They are very sociable and affectionate, and they get along great with kids of all ages. They love to play and make an extra effort to keep kids entertained and active. In addition, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are easy to train and tend to be eager to please. They have an innate desire to please their family, which helps to create a strong bond between dog and child.
Training a Cavalier King Charles can be both easy and difficult depending upon a few factors. For example, the age of the dog, their level of obedience, their personality type, and the training methods used will all play an important role. Generally speaking though, Cavaliers are known to be an intelligent and eager breed who is quick to learn what is expected of them. That being said, owners must ensure that consistent and positive reinforcement is used during training. This breed can become easily overwhelmed when a punishment-based approach is used.
