Questions & Answers
The most interesting thing about Cavalier King Charles is its outgoing and affectionate personality. They are incredibly loyal and love to be around their owners, often following you around the house and wanting to be the center of attention. It's also interesting that despite its small size, they can actually be quite athletic, and they love to run and play with toys such as stuffed animals. Not only that, but these dogs enjoy swimming, and even retrieving small objects when playing in the water. The Cavalier King Charles also has a remarkable history, being the prized breed of Charles I of England.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel coat is both attractive and distinctive. It is silky, medium-length -about four to six inches long -and it is characterized by feathering on the ears, the chest, the belly, and the legs. The texture is wavy and requires routine brushing and combing to maintain its glossy shine. The coat is of a solid color, such as black and tan, Blenheim, ruby, or tricolor, and generally requires trimming.
Cavaliers King Charles are known for their love of food, so it's no surprise that their diets are quite varied. They enjoy a mix of wet and dry food, and can eat in both small portions throughout the day, or one large portion. When it comes to treats, Cavaliers King Charles are happy eaters, so giving them small snacks won't hurt. The treats should be grain-free, low-fat, and chewable for their small mouths. Some ideas for their diets include lean meats, boiled eggs, cooked vegetables, and dairy products.
Before bringing your new Cavalier King Charles home, there are some preparations you should make to ensure that your pet has a safe and comfortable living space. Create an area where they can relax and rest, ideally near the source of family activity so that they don't feel isolated. Make sure all household hazards are plugged or otherwise safely inaccessible. Get a sturdy, comfortable bed for them to relax on. Additionally, provide a variety of toys that they can chew or play with.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are considered small dogs according to the American Kennel Club (AKC) definition of size and weight for the breed. On average, they reach heights of 12-13 inches at the shoulder and typically weigh between 13–18 pounds. In other words, small to medium in size, with males generally being slightly larger than females. This makes them a great fit for both small and large households alike, as they’re small enough for smaller living spaces yet still have plenty of energy and love to give.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are considered a moderately active breed that need daily walks or other activities to stay healthy and happy. Depending on age, size, and energy level, they typically need anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of exercise each day. Long walks on the leash, vigorous games of fetch, or supervised roaming in a fenced area are all enjoyable ways to keep these dogs active. Owners should also allow for regular trips to the park to engage in a variety of physical activities which will provide physical and mental stimulation.
Absolutely! Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's are renowned for their affable nature and gentle disposition. Known for being extremely friendly and child-like in their own right, these dogs truly enjoy the attention they get when surrounded by kids. Their intelligence and trainability mean they are very willing to learn and try new things, making them perfect companions for family trips and activities. They are also incredibly intuitive and observant, so they can pick up on when a child isn't feeling well or needs a bit of extra love and care.
Training your Cavalier King Charles is important to ensure that you have a well-behaved, obedient pup. Start by teaching basic commands such as sit, stay and come. Give plenty of praise and treats when your pup responds correctly and remain consistent in your training. If your pup doesn't take to commands easily, consider enrolling them in a training course which will provide you with tips and advice on techniques and help you understand your pup’s behaviour.
