Questions & Answers
A Cavalier King Charles is a type of small-sized spaniel breed originating in England. The breed evolved as a popular lapdog for royalty and aristocracy during the seventeenth century, although it is now a favorite breed for all types of families. They are an active and affectionate breed that loves to spend quality time with their owners. The Cavalier King Charles is loyal, gentle, and loves to be cuddled. They are usually eager to please and fiercely loyal to their owners. The breed is also known for its intelligence, making it an ideal family pet.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a unique coat; it is silky, straight, and flat, with a light wave through it, and it may be either long or short. The coat of a Cavalier should be trimmed on the head and feet, as well as on the tail and back. The American Kennel Club recommends leaving the feathering longer on the ears, eyes, chest, feet and underbody. The Cavalier's coat comes in four different colors: Blenheim, ruby, tricolor, and black and tan.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels enjoy a healthy diet of dry kibble, moist canned food, or a combination of both. They usually eat two small meals per day and most breeders recommend feeding them premium dry food specifically designed for their breed and size. Small treats can be used to reward good behavior, but should never make up more than 10% of their diet. Additionally you may want to add fresh fruits, vegetables, oats, boiled chicken, or other things to their diet to help prevent boredom and improve their nutrition.
Before you bring your new Cavalier King Charles into your home, it's important to make sure you're prepared. First, make sure you have food, water, toys, a bed, and other supplies your pup needs. Next, research and create a routine of walks, meals, potty breaks, and playtime that your pup can get used to. Though they're typically quite social, it's important to start the process of socialization right away contact your vet to learn the best ways to introduce your pup to other people and animals.
The size of your Cavalier King Charles puppy may vary significantly. Generally, an adult male can reach anywhere between 12 to 13 inches in height and 13 to 18 pounds in weight. Females tend to be slightly smaller in comparison. For a more precise estimation of your puppy's adult size, you should ask your local veterinarian with whom you can compare the puppy sizing chart and pet growth chart. Additionally, veterinarians and breeders also recommend tracking your puppy's growth on a regular basis to predict how big it will be as an adult.
How much exercise your Cavalier King Charles should get depends on his age and health. If your pup is less than a year old, he should get 30 minutes of exercise a day, split up into two to three sessions. Older dogs should get 45 minutes of exercise a day, also split into two to three sessions. If your pup is healthy and has a lot of energy, try walking him for an hour a day to keep him mentally and physically fit. Remember, safety comes first, so keep within his comfort level and provide frequent potty breaks.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be an excellent choice for first-time owners. Not only are these dogs incredibly lovable and gentle-natured, but they tend to do well with children and other household pets. They can quickly become devoted members of the family and typically have lower energy levels and mild temperaments which can help make them easier to manage for those without prior canine experience. With regular training and exercise, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be very obedient and will respond very well to commands.
The amount of time you need to spend training your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel depends on a few different factors. First, you should consider the age and energy level of your pup. Puppies will need a bit more training than an adult dog, simply because they're still learning the basics. Additionally, if your pup is particularly rambunctious, you may need to spend a larger amount of time each day honing their skills.
