Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, often referred to simply as the Cavalier, is part of the sporting group of dogs and is classed as a toy breed. These small, elegant canines were first bred during the reign of King Charles II of England. They are intelligent and loyal little dogs, and have a friendly, gentle nature that makes them popular companions. The breed has a stunning silky coat of varying texture, and is available in a variety of colour combinations, including black and tan, ruby and blenheim.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a silky, medium-length, and slightly wavy coat that is made up of fine, soft fur. The main color of this breed is white with patches of black, brown, or red. Some also have a small amount of tan, tan and white, or tricolor markings. No matter the coloring, the Cavalier King Charles is sure to capture the attention of all who look upon them with their impressive and regal appearance.
A Cavalier King Charles should have a balanced diet that is rich in proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Look for a good-quality kibble that contains natural proteins, such as chicken, beef, or lamb, as well as a mix of sweet potatoes, brown rice, or peas. Avoid feeding your Cavalier King Charles unspecified "meat byproducts," such as chicken by-products, which don't provide adequate nutrition. Many brands of dry food are tailored specifically for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and provide a complete balance of vitamins and minerals.
If you are expecting to bring home a Cavalier King Charles, it is important to make sure the home environment is safe and welcoming. Firstly, make sure the floor is not slippery and free from any debris and obstacles that your pet could slip on or injure themselves on. To make your home sound and smell pleasant for your new pet, you should look into providing soft music to soothe them and use non-toxic, pet-safe sprays and cleaning solutions.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in four distinct size varieties solely determined by weight: Toy, 8-12 pounds; Ruby, 13-18 pounds; Blenheim, 18-22 pounds; and Prince Charles, 22-28 pounds. In addition, they are further divided due to the size of their heads: smaller Appleheads for the Toy and Ruby, and larger Deerheads for the Blenheim and Prince Charles. As these sizes are determined by weight and head size, a puppy’s breed can be confirmed later based on what size the pup grows into as it matures.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are indeed an active breed of dog. They need regular exercise to keep from becoming bored or restless, so if you have a busy lifestyle, this breed may fit in well with you. Their enthusiasm for activity is often supplemented by their daily walks around the neighbourhood, playtime in the backyard, and other mischief. However, while they are energetic, they naturally maintain a calm demeanor, and will always be ready to snuggle up and relax when the time is right. Their friendly nature allows for both short bursts of activity as well as long, leisurely sessions of rest.
Generally speaking, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are friendly and sociable dogs that enjoy the company of other animals. They are not aggressive and can usually be trusted to get along with other pets in the household. That being said, how well the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel gets along with other pets depends on the individual animal and its environment. The more opportunities it has to socialize with other pets, the more likely it is to get along well.
Training a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel can be easy, depending on the personality of the dog and just how well you understand it. This breed is intelligent and eager to please so if you have experience with dogs or have taken classes on how to train them, then you should be able to teach your Cavalier King Charles the things that it needs to know. There are a few tips though that you should take into consideration before you get started. Make the training sessions short and have lots of positive reinforcement with treats and rewards. Also, establish yourself as the leader and be consistent with your commands.
