Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have been a beloved breed since the 16th century when they were originally bred as companions for King Charles II of England. They are a very friendly and people-focused breed that loves cuddles and snuggles. Fun facts about them include their ability to take on a variety of colors thanks to their mix of breeding they come in Blenheim, ruby, tri-color and black and tan. If they don't get enough exercise, they can become destructive or even obese.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a luxurious silky coat, but fortunately, they are also considered to be low-shedding or 'non-shedding' dogs. Although they do not shed in the traditional sense that other breeds might, their outer coat of hair can still become matted and require regular grooming to ensure that it remains comfortable and healthy. Unless extra effort is taken to keep their coat and skin healthy, it won't remain free of shedding.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a hearty appetite and are not picky eaters. There are many different types of food available that can accommodate their dietary needs. It is important to provide a balanced and nutritious diet to keep them healthy. The diet for a Cavalier King Charles should include protein, carbs, healthy fats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and supplements. Dry kibbles with real meat as the first ingredient is the ideal choice. Canned food can also be provided, but in moderation as too much can lead to gastric bloating.

Most Cavaliers love going for walks, and they won't mind taking a few extra minutes to paddle in a lake or stream along the way.
Generally speaking, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are quite friendly with other pets. They have a very playful temperament, so if introduced to other animals gradually and in a safe environment, they will almost always be welcoming and eager to make new friends. The only animals that you may want to avoid introducing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to are those with especially aggressive temperaments, as this breed can be quite sensitive and can become easily overwhelmed by overly aggressive pets.
Training a Cavalier King Charles is best done with positive reinforcement. Start by setting a routine, so your pup knows what their expectations are every day. It's important to offer rewards (such as treats or verbal praise) to reward good behavior and make sure they understand that this is desirable.
