What's more, unlike many other toy breeds, they don't enjoy being coddled and prefer being able to explore and play.
The Cavalier King Charles coat is a beautiful blend of silky yet wavy fur. It's a medium-length coat featuring plenty of feathering throughout. This breed's coat is known for its long, soft, and often slightly wavy feathering found around its head, body, and legs. It has a thick and lush double-coat that is full and dense, while still managing to keep its silky texture. The shades of color vary with white being the base, often accompanied by black and tan markings or a reddish-blonde.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are an energetic and playful breed that needs a well-balanced diet to maintain their health. Generally, adult Dogs should eat twice a day and can be fed a high-quality dry food or a combination of dry and wet food. Healthy variability in their diet is always recommended. They enjoy good quality treats, likedifferent types of particularly soft and chewy meats, vegetables, plain low-fat boiled chicken (without salt or spices), wheat-free rice and other grains, fruits, eggs, yoghurt, peanut butter, and green beans.
Before introducing a Cavalier King Charles into your home, it is essential to prepare for the transition. To start, research the breed, learn about the typical characteristics, energy levels, and diet needs in order to be well-prepared to care for your pet. Additionally, it is important to provide your Cavalier King Charles with a home where they feel safe and can feel at their most comfortable. To do this, create a good environment where you can be responsible for their healthcare, emotional needs, and nutrition, as well as provide them with the necessary toys and bedding to meet their needs.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels typically reach an average height of 12-13 inches at the shoulder and can weigh dogen between 13-18 pounds. They have longer legs and body length than your average toy breed, so they carry a slightly larger frame. They have a striking, yet gentle face: large, round eyes, long ears, and a medium-length muzzle. Their soft, silky coat is usually white with patches of black, tan, and ruby. They have an average life span of 10-15 years and are known for their loyalty, affection, and great love of activity.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's definitely have a love for the water and swimming! These energetic and happy-go-lucky dogs have an innate swimming instinct that many other breeds simply don't have. They were initially bred to be bird hunters, however many enjoy the water and being able to use their natural ability to become better hunt dogs. As water dogs, they are very strong swimmers and don't tire as quickly as other breeds when swimming for extended periods of time.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are generally known for their good natured, friendly demeanor and are therefore usually quite tolerant and accepting of other pets in the household. However, just like any other breed, interactions with other pets should always be monitored for the safety of the pets and the humans in the household. With proper introduction and socialization from a young age, such as slow, controlled exposure, most Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can get along quite comfortably with other pets from cats to other canines.
Training a Cavalier King Charles is a rewarding experience but like with any pet, training them to understand commands and behavior takes time, dedication and patience. While these dogs are naturally smart and loyal, early socialization and obedience training is beneficial. Teaching commands, patience and creating the desired behavior can take months and should be done with a consistent and positive approach. Treats, positive reinforcement, and rewards are the best way to teach a Cavalier King Charles as they respond well to treats as well as verbal praise. The key to successful training is consistency, praise and gentle guidance.
