Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are part of the toy/sporting class of dog, which makes them medium-sized, yet still relatively small. These breeds have a regal and elegant presence that has remained popular throughout the years and is reflected in their dignified, gentle expressions. They have silky coats that come in four color variations, and can weigh anywhere between 10-18 lbs. Depending on the lineage, their heart-shaped faces can be smooth or slightly wrinkled.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels generally do not shed much fur, making them an excellent choice for families with allergies. The breed is also typically described as low-shedding due to the dense and wavy fur, which helps trap the dead hair and prevents it from getting airborne. The fur requires regular brushing and trimming to avoid mats and tangles, which can irritate the skin and enhance the amount of shedding.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels typically come in three sizes: Toy (7-12 lbs.), Blenheim (12-18 lbs.), and Tricolor (12-18 lbs.). Training your Cavalier King Charles requires patience and positive reinforcement. Start to train your companion as soon as possible, preferably when they are still a puppy, as the younger a canine starts learning, the more easily they will pick up routines and behaviors. Set up a structured program of short daily training sessions; reward positive behavior, but never punish bad behavior. Offer treats for desired behaviors to keep them motivated in the training process. Make sure to be consistentthe same thing should be expected every time.
