A Cavalier King Charles is a small breed of spaniel, recognizable by its long, silky coat and round face. This breed originated in the United Kingdom during the reign of Charles II in the 17th century and he himself was said to have owned a puppy of this breed. They are considered active dogs that are both playful and affectionate. Today, these dogs are used for companion animals as well as in agility, obedience, show, and tracking competitions. They come in four color variations: Ruby, Blenheim, Tri-colored, and black and tan.
While some people think Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are hypoallergenic, that is not necessarily the case. Hypoallergenic dogs are breeds whose saliva and dander do not produce the same type of allergens as other breeds. Unfortunately, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not considered a hypoallergenic dog breed. They do produce allergens that can trigger an allergic reaction.
