Questions & Answers
The Cavalier King Charles is an elegant and affectionate toy spaniel. It is a small breed known for its outgoing and loyal disposition. Their coats come in four varieties: Blenheim (red and white), Tri-colour (Black and Tan with White), Black and Tan and Ruby. They have large, luminous eyes and long ears that hang down around their face. This breed is lively and alert, but also affectionate and loving. Its origins lie in England in the 16th and 17th centuries, and today it remains a beloved companion and show dog.
The short answer is yes, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are hypoallergenic. This breed does not produce as much dander as other dogs, which makes them ideal for homes with people who suffer from pet allergies. They shed little to none, so there's less maintenance involved with these furry friends. However, it is important to note that anyone who is extremely allergic to dogs may still experience symptoms associated with allergies when around a Cavalier King Charles. Even though they may be hypoallergenic, they still need regular brushing and grooming to help keep their coats in top condition.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are an active breed who enjoy playing as much as they enjoy eating. Best diet for them consists of high-quality dry dog food made with animal-based proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and natural oils for healthy coats. Dry food should be kept in the form of small kibbles, allowing your Cavalier to enjoy mealtime while still receiving essential nutrients. Dogs should have two smaller meals throughout the day, rather than one large meal, and should never be overfed--instead, provide healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables in-between meals.
Before getting a Cavalier King Charles, it's essential to purchase food and water dishes, bedding or a crate for sleeping, grooming supplies (e.g. brush, shampoo, nail clippers, etc.), a collar or harness, toys, and puppy pads or litter boxes for house-training. Additionally, it's important to provide your new pup with plenty of chew items to help them with teething, and to start training right away.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in four distinct sizes: Toy size, which stands up to 12 inches; Miniature size, which stands 13 to 14 inches tall; Ruby size, which is between 15 and 16 inches tall; and Blenheim size, which stands 17 to 18 inches tall. Though the exact size will depend on a particular breed, all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for being friendly, playful and good with children. People looking for a small to medium sized companion should consider this breed, as they should not exceed 18 inches in height.
The amount of time a Cavalier King Charles should walk daily varies quite a bit depending on their age, size, and current health. Generally speaking, a healthy adult Cavalier should get at least 30 minutes a day of gentle exercise, though there are no hard-and-fast rules for the exact amount of exercise they should get. Older and smaller dogs may need less, while puppies and larger dogs may need more.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs are known for their friendly, gentle disposition. They have a tremendous capacity for loving and being loyal family members, including getting along with children. These dogs are known for having an affectionate nature and being happy to meet new people, especially young children. In general, Cavaliers are gentle, patient and very social with children, doing well in an environment that thrives on positive attention and play. They tend to be warm and loving towards children and other family members.
Training your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel should be an enjoyable experience for both you and your pup! When starting out, start by teaching your pup the basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and lie down. Make sure to stay consistent with your commands and rewards, and remain patient as they learn. From there, work on further commands such as leave it and heal. Positive reinforcement can be quite successful when it comes to training your Cavalier King Charles. When your pup does something correctly, make sure to provide them with lots of praise and petting along with tasty treats.
