Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are incredible loyal and loveable dogs that have a long, rich history! For example, the breed originated in Britain in the mid-17th century and was used as a companion breed. They were known for being loyal and devoted to their owners and were given as gifts from King Charles II of England and are even featured in some of his paintings! In addition, they often have four white feet and can be either tricolor (black, white, and tan) or ruby (all red).
The Cavalier King Charles breed has a classic coat that is soft and silky to the touch. It's a medium-long length with an abundant, feathery texture, and is one of the breed's most distinguishable features. The outer coat is more coarse and wavy, while the undercoat is softer and more downy. They come in an array of colors, including ruby, Blenheim, tri-color and black and tan.
Cavalier King Charles spaniels should not be fed several items as they may cause health issues or make them sick. It is best not to feed them foods that are high in sugar, such as candy, chocolate, soft drinks, cookies and bakery items, as this can cause diabetes and weight gain. Avoid feeding them foods that are high in fat such as junk foods or anything deep-fried or containing large amounts of butter or oils. Limit their consumption of uncooked bones, and avoid feeding them cooked or processed bones as they can splinter and cause an obstruction or tear their intestines.
Preparing for a Cavalier King Charles can be an enjoyable, exciting process. Before bringing your new pet home, research the breed characteristics and any specific needs it may have. Gathering all the necessary supplies like food, a bed, a leash, and a collar will also help you prepare. A good diet is key to the health of any dog, so it's important to buy high-quality food and create a consistent schedule for meals. Additionally, make sure to have your Cavalier properly groomed and arrange for an initial vet appointment.
Size depend largely on the pup's parentage, but most Cavalier King Charles puppies will reach an average adult weight of anywhere from 13 to 18 pounds. However, males may reach up to 20 pounds and females up to 18 pounds, depending on their genetics and level of exercise they're getting. When it comes to height, these dogs usually measure up to 13 inches, although they could be slightly taller or shorter.
It is important to walk your Cavalier King Charles at least 30 minutes per day. Walking is an excellent way for your dog to stay healthy and happy. In addition to the daily walks, you can also add some additional activities for your pet, such as running, playing in the yard, or going to the dog park. By providing a variety of activities, your pup will stay fit and engaged. Just remember to keep the walks interesting and take time for scent games and sniffing.
Yes, Cavalier King Charles spaniels generally do get along with children, as long as proper introductions occur and the safety of both the dog and the human are paramount in the relationship. They are generally gentle and docile dogs that love to be around people and play as long as it is done so in a respectful and calm manner that does not alarm the canine. Socialization is very important from an early age to ensure that King Charles is comfortable around children and familiar with their energy levels and demeanor.
Training your Cavalier King Charles can be an enjoyable experience and a rewarding process for you and your pet. The key is to make the process enjoyable and fun for both you and your pup. To begin, you'll want to create a positive environment and have lots of treats at the ready. Start by teaching your pet basic commands such as sit, stay, come. Reward good behavior with a treat, and give your pup plenty of encouragement and positive reinforcement.
