Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting features of the Cavalier King Charles breed of dog is their remarkable temperament. Known as a "lap dog," Cavaliers are incredibly loyal, loving, and gentle. They typically attach themselves strongly to their owners, so much so that they may become overly attached and overly protective of them. This adoration known as "Velcro-dog" behavior is incredibly endearing, and many people find that they can't resist that Love-Me-Love-Me-Not attitude. Many Cavalier owners find them to be the perfect balance of playfulness and affection.
Generally speaking, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not considered hypoallergenic. Certain breeds of dogs are typically thought to produce fewer allergens, however Cavaliers are not among them. Although the breed does not produce a significantly large amount of dander or fur, this alone does not make them hypoallergenic. However, in some cases the amount of dander they shed is lower than average and therefore can be tolerated by more individuals who are prone to allergies. Generally speaking, it's advised to do an allergy test before bringing a Cavalier into your home.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small breed with specific dietary needs. It is recommended to feed them a high-quality, commercially-prepared diet of dry food specifically formulated for small breed puppies or adult dogs. You should select a diet with high-quality proteins and provide your pup with appropriate amounts of fresh, clean water every day. A balanced diet with appropriate amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and water is essential to ensure your pup stays healthy.
To prepare your home for a new Cavalier King Charles, you should start by creating a safe space for them to explore. Strategically place their play areas in areas where you can keep an eye on them, and be sure not to create any hazards on which they might accidently fall. Before bringing your pup home, make sure you have all the necessary supplies, such as a bed, food, toys, etc. Additionally, ensure that your home is pet-proofed with gated spaces or pet guards to avoid any injuries or escapes.
Cavalier King Charles puppies grow to an average size of 12 to 13 inches at the shoulder and may weigh 13 to 18 pounds when they are fully grown. However, size and weight depend largely on diet, exercise levels, and genetics. Puppies of this breed that are given ample exercise and fed a balanced diet will generally reach their potential size and weight. As such, it is difficult to predict exactly how big your puppy will become.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are lively and active dogs, but have the capacity to be quite calm and quiet as well. They enjoy attention and exercise, and they are never happier than when they are partaking in that exercise and spending quality time with their family. On average, short walks and plently of indoor playtime are highly encouraged if you have a Cavalier in your home. While they may not need the same amount or type of exercise as other, more active dogs, they thrive on connection with their companions.
Cavalier King Charles are naturally friendly, gentle dogs that make excellent companions for children. Due to their eagerness to please and laid back temperament, they have great potential for becoming loyal and devoted friends to children. This breed loves attention and will always be happy to spend time with kids, playing games, cuddling, and going on adventures outdoors. With firm but loving guidance, Cavalier King Charles can be a great addition to any family. They enjoy learning new tricks and participating in activities, making them the perfect playmate for kids.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel should receive at least 60 minutes of exercise per day. This should include a combination of physical and mental exercise. Physical exercise should include a mix of moderate-intensity activities such as jogging, walking, and swimming. Mental exercise can include activities like playing fetch or teaching new tricks. However, it's important to note that exercise for a Cavalier should be moderate, and not too vigorous or long. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels transitions quickly from moderate activity to high intensity, which could impact their health.
