This makes them a symbol of power and status and their popularity has continued to grow over time. They are extremely loyal and loving and make great companions for any family. They are also an incredibly adaptable breed with an even temperament that is friendly around children and other animals.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a beautiful silky coat that may look deceptively low-maintenance, yet they are actually considered to be moderate shedders. However, the amount of shedding tends to vary from individual to individual. Some Cavaliers may not shed much at all, while others may need frequent grooming to keep their coat properly maintained. In general, they do not shed as much as other breeds, and they are a lot less prone to hairball buildup, which can be a major plus for any household.
Feeding the wrong diet to a Cavalier King Charles can have serious health repercussions, so it is important to know what not to feed your pet. While this breed loves rich foods, it is important to remember that they are also very prone to gaining weight and developing serious health conditions like pancreatitis and diabetes. As such, human food treats should be avoided whenever possible.
Preparing your home for a new Cavalier King Charles is a relatively simple task. First, puppy-proof your house by removing any items that may be dangerous or otherwise hazardous to the pup (including small toys, choking hazards, rubber bands, and string). Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in four sizes toy, miniature, small, and standard. Toy Cavaliers are the smallest, measuring from 10-12 inches tall, with a weight of between 8-13 lbs. Miniature Cavaliers are slightly larger at 11-13 inches tall and a weight of 13-18 lbs. Small Cavaliers measure 13-15 inches tall, with a weight between 18 and 25 lbs. Standard Cavaliers are the largest, measuring 15-16 inches tall, and weighing 25-35 lbs. All sizes of Cavaliers have the same sweet temperament.
The amount of exercise that a Cavalier King Charles needs will largely depend on their age and health condition. Generally speaking, a healthy adult dog of this breed will require about an hour of exercise daily. This includes activities such as walking, running, and playing. Puppies of this breed, however, may require less exercise and may do well with several shorter play sessions instead of one long session. It is also important to ensure that the exercise is appropriate for their age and any underlying health conditions should be kept in mind.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCS) can make excellent first-time owners, as they have gentle temperaments, do not require a significant amount of exercise, and are incredibly cuddly. They bond well with their owners and are eager to please, making them great companions and family pets. This breed is also both hypoallergenic and low-shedding, making them easy to maintain. Due to their small size, CKCS make great apartment dwellers and helpfully adapt to small living spaces.
Generally speaking, it is recommended that Cavalier King Charles’s receive at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. This can be split into two or more shorter sessions throughout the day. Exercise type should be tailored to your pet's age, health and size, but should generally include brisk walking, play, and mental stimulation. Always keep their exercise easy to moderate; over-exertion can lead to health issues. In addition to physical exercise, it is also important to provide plenty of mental stimulation to keep them mentally fit.
