Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are relatively small toy-sized dogs with kind, gentle dispositions. These friendly dogs were originally bred in the early 1600s in Great Britain and were loyal companions to King Charles II of England. One of the most interesting fun facts about Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that many people don't know is that their tail is actually illegal to dock in the UK. Additionally, these dogs have always been known for their wonderful temperament which made them particularly suitable for families with young children. They are very affectionate, loves being around people, and bonds easily.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a trademark coat of long, silky hair they don't shed, making them ideal for those with allergies. Its coat is usually some combination of white and blenheim (chestnut and white), ruby and tri-colored (black/white/tan). While the coat coloring may vary, the texture is always the same: a fine, silky fur that can be straight, wavy, or semi-curly. Depending on the individual, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's fur may get longer towards his hind quarters.
Generally speaking, it is best for a Cavalier King Charles to not be given human food. For example, avoid giving them chocolate, onions, avocados, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and anything with caffeine in it. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not considered to be particularly large dogs. While Cavaliers do have a decent-sized frame and are often referred to as the an "efficient little hunter," they tend to stay in the range of 10-18 pounds and 10-13 inches in height when fully grown.
