The Cavalier King Charles is a charming toy breed that was bred to accompany royalty in the 17th century. It is a very loving and devoted breed, easily adapting to their home and forming strong bonds with their owners. This dog breed usually has a long, silky coat that can be white, black & tan, or tricolor; they have large, round eyes that convey their expressiveness and friendliness. In terms of temperament, Cavaliers love to be around people, and they thrive in the company of humans.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are commonly known to be low-shedding due to their silky fur coat, making them a great pet for people who suffer from allergies. That does not mean, however, that Cavaliers do not shed at all. Oftentimes, their long fur will collect smaller pieces of shedding fur that cannot be seen as easily as those from other breeds. Therefore, it is important to brush your pup frequently to ensure that the shedding fur is removed from their coat on a regular basis.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels do not have any specific dietary needs that differ from other breeds; however, high-quality dog food is always recommended, along with a balanced diet and regular exercise. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in three sizes-toy, which is up to 12 pounds; ruby, which is 13 to 18 pounds; and blenheim, which is over 18 pounds. This is determined by the dog's height at the withers and not the weight. Toy Cavalier Kings are usually 10 to 12 inches at the withers, ruby types are 12 to 13 inches, and blenheims are 13 to 18 inches high. Thus, depending on the size the dog reaches when fully grown, will determine what size it is.
