Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have been around for several centuries and are known as companion dogs. They make wonderful family pets and can easily adapt to busy lifestyles. One fun fact about Cavaliers is that they have the ability to recognize their owners' voice and will often turn their head in the direction of capture's voice. Additionally, the breed of Cavalier is known for being exceptionally gentle and making a wonderful watchdog because of its alertness. They are very affectionate and loyal to their owners, often enjoying lap time during a movie.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a beautiful coat that is silky to the touch. It is medium in length with longer hair around its face, ears, chest, and legs. The colors of the coat vary and include Blenheim (chestnut and white), Tri-Color (black and white with tan markings), Ruby (solid red/mahogany), and Black and Tan. Depending on the color of the Cavalier, there may also be traces of white, lemon, orange, and even grey.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should not be fed any human food since it can lead to obesity and other health issues. The most important thing to remember when it comes to feeding a Cavalier is that they should only be fed a balanced, nutritious diet of wet and dry kibble specifically designed for small breed dogs. Avoid feeding them any raw meat, bones, eggs, dairy products, or chocolate, as these can cause dietary upset or, in the case of chocolate, be toxic.
To adequately prepare your home for your new Cavalier King Charles, the first thing you should do is make sure any hazardous areas (such as cleaning supplies, electrical cords, etc.) are secured. You'll also want to puppy-proof your home, so it's important to block off any areas your new pup can easily access but is not safe for them be in. After this, it's important to purchase and set up any necessary items including bedding, toys, food bowls, and treats.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are considered a small breed of canine, typically growing to an average height of around 12-13 inches and an average weight of 13-18 pounds. Despite their small stature, they do often carry some extra weight when not exercised properly and actively. Depending on the particular dog, sizes can differ slightly with males averaging on the larger side of the height and weight range. The breed is also known for their longevity most live 12-15 years or more.
Yes, you can take your Cavalier King Charles running. It is important to remember, however, that all dogs need appropriate warm up and cool down times that match the length and difficulty of the workout. Some dogs are more suited to vigorous running than others, so make sure your Cavalier King Charles is physically and medically able to handle a running routine before starting. They should be at least 1-year-old so that their bones are fully mature and able to handle running. It is also recommended to use a properly fitted, adjusted, and maintained harness for running with a Cavalier King Charles.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are typically excellent family dogs that are known for their loving and loyal nature. They have even been said to have the gentleness of a teddy bear; making them perfect for families with young children. They are very attached to the people they love and enjoy attention from humans, but can also spend long periods of time alone without negative effects. They’re highly energetic and require frequent exercise, but due to their tendency to bond with all family members, they can make excellent jogging or walking partners.
The amount of exercise a Cavalier King Charles needs each day will depend on the individual dog's age, health, and breed. Generally speaking, up to thirty minutes of moderate exercise should be provided per day for an adult Cavalier, in the form of a walk or play time. If your puppy is younger than six months, or has just been adopted, short and frequent walks should be given. Young puppies should be exercised for only five to ten minutes per day. Be sure to provide plenty of opportunities for mental stimulation and rest in between physical activities.
