These fluffy dogs are the smallest among the four breeds of spaniels and which originated in Britain in the 17th century. An interesting fact is that during the reign of King Charles II, these dogs were kept mainly inside the court, never being let outside so as to remain clean enough for the King's company. They are also great swimmers due to their long coats and their love of water.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have been selectively bred for centuries and are considered to be a low-shedding breed, making them great for people with allergies. Since their coat is wavy and not very thick, not much loose hair is typically shed. However, all dogs will shed, so even Cavalier King Charles Spaniels will shed, just in smaller amounts. To minimize the shedding, regular grooming is necessary. Regular bathing with the appropriate shampoo, and brushing multiple times per week will prevent fur from matting and reduce shedding.
