Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a breed of small spaniels. They have an interesting history, having been believed to be pets of the British Royal Family since 1650. Today they are very popular lapdogs, as they are intelligent, affectionate and loyal. Some fun facts about this breed include them having long, silky coats that come in four distinct colors: Blenheim (rich chestnut and white), Tri-color (black, white and tan), Black and Tan and Ruby.
Managing allergies with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be a challenge, as they have a high rate of shedding and a hair-trigger for allergies. To help manage allergies when owning a Cavalier, consider investing in an air purifier to trap any pet dander that may be in the air. You should also vacuum regularly to remove any pet dander on the floors and furniture, and if you have carpeted floors, steam clean them every month or two.
Feeding your Cavalier King Charles is a very important part of their overall health and wellness. Generally, your pet should drink plenty of clean, fresh drinking water at all times and receive a balanced, nutritionally complete food as part of a healthy diet. It's best to feed your Cavalier King Charles breed a specially formulated diet that is designed for small dogs. To ensure the food is correctly balanced for their size and energy needs, you'll want to be sure that the food contains all of the necessary vitamins and minerals for their age.
To prepare your home for welcoming a Cavalier King Charles companion, it's important to start by puppy-proofing the space. Remove items your puppy could chew, and make sure any cords and fragile items are out of reach. Gather pet supplies such as food and water dishes, toys, brushes, a bed, and maybe a kennel or crate for nap times. It's also recommended to purchase a few leashes in various sizes and clip them to a doorknob; that will help you train your new pup and make heads turns when on walks.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels require at least moderate regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Depending on the size and age of the dog, this may range from one 30-minute walk a day to a brisk hour-long session of playtime and exercise. Furthermore, because Cavaliers have a tendency to gain weight quickly, owners should ensure that their pup is not overfed and encouraged to stay active with regular out door activities. Additionally, mixing up the types of physical activities with your Cavalier is importantfetching, agility, swimming, and long walks are all great choices.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can get along with other pets, as long as there is proper socialization and introductions are done carefully and slowly. Generally, Cavailers do best when they are allowed to meet other animals in the home at a young age, as this helps them to become more comfortable when meeting unfamiliar animals. If introductions are done properly, they can form strong bonds with other pets, such as cats, smaller dogs, and other pets within the home.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have been bred to be loyal companions and so they are known to be intelligent, interactive, and friendly dogs. They do require consistent, positive reinforcement, structure, and exercise to live a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle. With regular mental and physical stimulation, they can be an excellent addition to any family. Learning basic obedience and manners helps to strengthen the bond between the owner and the dog. With their eagerness to please, they are usually quick to learn to fulfill the owner's expectations. In short, yes, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are considered intelligent dogs.
