Questions & Answers
The Cavalier King Charles is a particular breed of small toy spaniel named after King Charles II of England who adored them in the 17th century. These friendly dogs have a gentle and graceful appearance, characterized by their luxurious, silky coat, long ears and large expressive eyes. Their coat is usually of chestnut and white, black and white, or ruby and tri-color. The average weight for a Cavalier is 13 to 18 pounds, and the height is 12 to 13 inches.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are indeed a low-shedding breed, with a silky, curly coat. Though they may start off shedding very little in their early years, they may shed a bit more as they age, especially during shedding season. For this reason, it's important to keep an eye on brushing and grooming, as this can help keep shedding to a minimum. Regular brushing and bathing help maintain a healthy coat and remove excess hair. Additionally, regular baths help keep the dander level low, further helping to reduce shedding.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for being generally healthy but they do have some special dietary needs that should be taken into consideration. This includes avoiding overfeeding, which can lead to obesity, as well as monitoring the fat content in their diet. It is also important to feed a balanced diet that meets your dog's daily nutrient requirements and is low in sodium and sugar.
Cavalier King Charles have some special requirements that should be considered when caring for the breed. These requirements include daily exercise, regular brushing to help diminish shedding and maintain their beautiful coat, annual vet check-ups, adequate nutrition, grooming and occasional bathing. They should also receive yearly vaccinations and be tested for any hereditary disorders that may be present. Additionally, Cavalier King Charles spaniels have a tendency to suffer from cardiac abnormalities, so keeping them away from any type of stress or overexertion is important.
Cavalier King Charles spaniels generally weigh about 18-19 lbs and stand at an average of around 11-13 inches in height. Consequently, they are considered a small to medium sized dog by most standards; however, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel's characteristically big personality places them in a class of their own. Additionally, the Cavalier has a long, silky coat that can appear larger and more majestic than their religious frame.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels need an adequate amount of exercise to stay healthy and happy. An adult Cavalier will need about an hour of activity per day, in the form of a combination of walking, chasing a ball, agility training, and other forms of physical and mental activities. With this breed, it is important to start with small, short walks and gradually build up the level of activity as your pet's fitness grows. As a rule of thumb, it is best to always consult with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate amount and type of exercise for your five-legged companion.
Generally speaking, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a very friendly and gentle breed and they are known to get along well with children. They tend to be very patient and calm dogs, making them the perfect companions for families with small children. They are a fun, affectionate breed that can provide hours of entertainment and love. Because they make great lap dogs they can be a great source of comfort to kids who may need a furry friend to hug.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a breed of small Spaniel that has been around for centuries. It is believed that this active, friendly breed is highly intelligent. However, intelligence is an individual trait, so while some may excel in certain areas, others might not. On average, Cavaliers are just as smart as other breeds; they just learn and react to their environments differently. This breed is excellent at sensing and respecting boundaries, and responding to voice commands. They also form strong bonds with their owners and respond best to consistent, positive training methods.
