The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a coat that can come in a variety of different colors including black and tan, ruby, Blenheim and tricolor. It is soft and silky to the touch, with a slight tendency to curl slightly at the ends. The length of the coat is medium and the texture of the coat is quite fine. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel does not require a great deal of grooming, although regular brushing and combing to remove tangles, mats, and debris is recommended. With regular care, the coat will remain healthy and attractive.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should not be fed chocolate, onions, alcohol, grapes, or raisins as these items can be toxic for them and may cause health problems. Additionally, they should not be given foods that are high in fat, as they can develop a condition called pancreatitis, which can be fatal. As a rule of thumb, it's best to avoid feeding them human foods, as they may be a choking hazard or have unbalanced nutrition, leading to obesity and other health problems.
To become the best puppy parent for your Cavalier King Charles, developing a trusting relationship through loving interactions, setting firm boundaries, and providing a stimulating and enriching environment are all key. Making sure they get the proper exercise and nutrition is also essential for your puppy's physical and mental health. Being patient, providing positive reinforcement through treats, rewards, and verbal praise, and sticking to consistent rules, so your puppy knows what to expect, will help with training.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in four distinct sizes: Toy, Ruby, Blenheim, and Prince Charles. While the American Kennel Club and the AKC does not recognize Toy-size Cavaliers, breeders do, and they usually weigh around 8 to 12 pounds as adults. Ruby Cavaliers are considered the most popular size and weigh an average of 12 to 18 pounds. Blenheim Cavaliers have a rich brown and white coat, and they can weigh between 13 and 18 pounds when fully grown. Prince Charles Cavaliers are the largest type and usually reach around 18 and 25 pounds as adults.
Though the exact amount of time to walk a Cavalier King Charles may vary based on its overall fitness level, breed size, health, and energy level, it is recommended that this type of dog be walked for at least 30 minutes per day. With regular and consistent exercise, it is likely that 20 minutes of walking in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening would be ideal for a Cavalier King Charles. Additionally, when possible, a few shorter (15-minute) walks throughout the day could be beneficial as well.
