Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are one of the most popular toy dogs. They are friendly and affectionate, and their small size makes them ideal for living in an apartment or condo. Cavaliers come in four colors, Blenheim, black and tan, ruby, and tricolor. They do require regular grooming, especially of their long ears and coats. Cavaliers shed seasonally and should be combed and brushed daily. Cavaliers need plenty of daily exercise, whether it's taking a leisurely walk or playing a game of fetch.
The coats of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel vary depending on the color of the dog. Generally, they have a thick, silky coat with a slight wave that does not shed easily. The coat may feel slightly wiry to the touch, and appears glossy when lying flat. The length of the coat is medium to long and there are some variations depending on region and line. Its texture may range from flat to moderately curly, and the feathers that adorn the legs, chest, ears, and head are generally long, wavy, and silky.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels need a moderate amount of exercise to stay healthy and happy. Ideally, they should get 30 to 45 minutes of exercise each day, divided into two or three periods. Exercise should include both aerobic activities like jogging, as well as mental stimulation like learning new skills through agility courses. They should have access to an enclosed area for leisurely outdoor playtime, but make sure that the temperature is comfortable – Cavaliers can easily overheat during exercise.
