Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are an adoring and affectionate breed that makes a loving family pet. They generally have an outgoing and friendly temperament, making them an excellent choice for those who need a companion. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have long, wavy coats in four colors: ruby (red), black and tan, tricolor (black, white and tan) and blenheim (chestnut and white). They require daily brushing to keep their coats healthy and tangle-free.
While it’s not impossible for someone to be allergic to any breed of canine, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not commonly known to cause higher-than-average allergic reactions in humans. In general, people with allergies may have a mild sensitivity when exposed to any breed of dog, but as long as proper grooming and hygiene is kept up for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel there should not be any increase in allergic reactions.
Cavaliers King Charles must not be given any type of chocolate, as it is highly toxic to them; likewise, grapes and raisins can also be toxic to dogs. Foods that contain garlic, onions, or chives should also be avoided, as these can be a common trigger for causing anemia in many breeds. In addition, it is best to avoid feeding them salty snacks and processed human foods. Another important thing to avoid is feeding your dog cooked bones, which can easily splinter and cause your dog physical harm.
To become the best puppy parent for your Cavalier King Charles, start by taking the time to do research on the breed. Learn the unique characteristics and temperament of the breed so you can better understand and interpret the puppy's needs as it grows. Secondly, make sure to take them to the vet for regular checkups and vaccinations to ensure their health and well-being. Additionally, provide plenty of toys, activities, and walks to keep them engaged and happy.
Typically, adult Cavalier King Charles Spaniels range from 13 to 18 pounds and measure 12 to 13 inches at the shoulder. Smaller dogs may be considered "Toy" size, which, according to breed standards, should be between 12 and 13 pounds. Some experts believe there is also something called "Imperial" size, which describes a dog with a weight of 11 pounds or under, but this classification is not generally accepted as either Toy or Miniature.
Absolutely! Taking your Cavalier King Charles running or jogging can be a great idea. It can give your pet a good workout while being fun and enjoyable for the both of you. In order to start your running routine, you will need to ensure that your dog is in good physical condition and that it is receiving the necessary vaccinations to keep it healthy. Once your Cavalier King Charles is cleared for exercise, you can start by making short, slow jogs to stretch its legs.
Absolutely! Cavalier King Charles Spaniels make wonderful family dogs due to their remarkable personalities. They are exceptionally affectionate and great with children, making them an ideal pet for families with small children. They are people-oriented and gentle, and often very social. They can also be entertaining and funny, making them a fun member of the family. The Cavaliers are relatively small and do not take up too much space. They do not require a great deal of exercise but still require some in order to stay in shape.
Training a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel requires patience, consistency, and a kind demeanor. Be sure to reward your pup with treats or praise for a job well done. Start with basic training commands such as 'sit', 'stay', and 'down'. Be sure your pup understands one command before moving onto the next. Make sure to have your pup's attention every time you give a command. Give the command in the same tone and same words each time so your pup knows what you expect. Give them time to process the information before rewarding them.
