Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (Cavaliers) are a wonderful breed due to their intelligence, friendliness, and willingness to please. Cavaliers are relatively small dogs, making them suitable for living in apartments and other small spaces. They also have an excellent temperament which makes them a great breed for families with young children, as they are very patient and get along well with everyone. They do need to be taken out for regular walks and exercise in order to stay happy and healthy, however their moderate exercise needs make them easy to take care of.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are considered to be a low-shedding breed. They do not have undercoats, which are typically associated with excess shedding, so in general they do not shed heavily; however, like all breeds they do shed some. To keep shedding to a minimum, regular brushing with a de-shedding brush is recommended to help keep their fine silky texture and to keep their coats healthy and free from knots. In addition, regular grooming helps remove any loose hairs that have shed, aiding in keeping shedding at a minimum.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should never be given foods that contain high levels of fat or cocoa. Additionally, as with many other breeds, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should never be given raisins, grapes, onions, garlic, alcohol or macadamia nuts as these are all toxic to them. Additionally, all human foods should be avoided, and feed specifically formulated for their size and age should be used as a main staple. Rawhide, bones and pigs ears should also not be given to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as these can cause choking and intestinal blockages.
Before bringing your new Cavalier King Charles home, there are several steps you should take to ensure your home is prepared. Begin by puppy-proofing your home by removing any small items that could be a choking hazard, as well as items that could be toxic for your pup. You should also arrange for your pet to have a designated sleeping area with a comfortable bed, toys, and food and water bowls. Make sure to also block off areas of the house so your pet cannot explore them.
Yes, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is generally considered a small-sized breed of dog. Typically, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels stand around 12 to 13 inches tall and weigh between 10 and 18 pounds, making them well suited to living in most homes. Because of their size and sweet temperament, they are often chosen as companion animals and make wonderful additions to families. Their sweet, gentle nature and small size make them ideal for providing companionship in a variety of settings.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known to have a penchant for water. Many of these dogs do enjoy swimming and often times they have a natural affinity for it. Every dog is different, and for some this is more of an acquired taste, meaning they may have to be gradually introduced to water, its feel, and its motion. As with any type of activity involving any kind of body of water, always use caution and with a dog, make sure to practice safety measures even when in or near the water.
Cavalier King Charles are a great option for first-time owners. They are a loyal and affectionate breed that will make a great companion for the whole family. Cavaliers are small, with a lifespan of around 10-15 years, making them perfect for families who don't want the commitment of a longer-living companion. They have a tendency to become quickly attached to their owners, and can live happily in almost any home, apartment, or yard. With regular brushing and small amount of exercise, Cavaliers can remain healthy and happy for many years.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs are often referred to as loyal, cheerful, and entertaining companions. Although they may not be as organized or high-functioning as some other breeds, these charming pups certainly have their own intelligence. For instance, they are skilled problem solvers, often employing creative and innovative methods to get to their favorite treats or toys. They also excel in activities such as agility, lure coursing, and obedience, which require a bit of intelligence and dedication from the pup to complete.
